No, I was put off by the fact it doesn't do base building anymore.

Same here. It's not the same game without mining, gathering, building bases and setting up some cracking defense systems so nobody can get it

DoW 2 was a letdown for me as I liked building all the stuff in soulstorm and the earlier DoW releases, but it seems that all the half-decent RTS franchises are all going down the route of either squad based stuff, or alternatively the RTS side is so watered down to make it appeal to more people they might as well bottle it up and sell it at homopathy shops

    Re: Command and Conquer 4

Yup! Got it yesterday (from Gameplay).

As already mentioned, it ain't "C&C". I love good ol' fashioned base building RTSs but to be honest, it's not bad.

What I don't like about it is the requirement for a "persistent internet connection" and the game menu is effectively a chat room.

Not tried online multiplayer yet so can't comment on that particular aspect.

    Re: Command and Conquer 4

Very few positive reviews about the new C&C game. ' EA have killed another great franchise' Seems to be the general feelings. I though the new Red Alert was rubbish, and this takes more steps backwards. Buy buy C&C RIP

    Re: Command and Conquer 4

I am shocked at how bad this is. its unreal, im completely stunned

well done EA, you've just successfully wrecked the most famous RTS franchise in PC gaming history

Worst RTS i've ever played [...] utter failure

they couldn't have done a better job of destroying this game if they'd actually tried

being a fan of the series as a whole... made me cry

I would be very embarrassed if I had any involvement with this game

this isn't C&C, It's a horrid waste of money and time

its a absolute disgrace to the series, it should have been canceled instead of releasing a complete and utter failure

I mourn the loss of what was supposed to be an epic games triumphant conclusion, but hey, at least EA got their money, why should they care?

Frankly, when I wasn't feeling RA3 I knew it was bad news. Tiberium Wars was awesome, Kane's Wrath was good too. But RA3 sucked, and this is the final nail in the coffin.

    RA3 was very bad.

The DRM in this has prevented me even playing it.

I liked RA3 but couldn't help thinking that they'd paid a load of porn stars for the female characters in the cut scenes.

Red Alert (the original) in my mind is the best of the bunch

Now I look back RA3 was decent, originally I did not like it but it sort of grew on me. It was nothing compared to Tiberium Wars though. I do agree about the women though, even though Gemmat Atkinson is , if I wanted that I have google images to help me . I much prefer the more elegant approach used in Tiberium Wars.

    Re: Command and Conquer 4

Totally agree with you there, I loved spedning hours building up a base and then tank rushing the AI. I have such fond memories of the originals that I refuse to buy C&C 4. I remember one epic Skirmish match on one of my own maps I made in RA1 that went on till 4am in the morning.

Still it seems being elegant doesn't sell games these days and its all about getting stuff to the table before its ready for release.

Hmm I wonder if the first decade pack will work on Windows 7 ?

Well I got it working fine on Vista 32 bit, not tried on Windows 7 but don't see why it won't work!

RA2 for me was my favorite, along with C&C Generals.

So can anyone confirm, if you dont have an Internet account, can you play the game or not?
