Angry ATi R420 Screenshot = Fake

Well as the majority of you may of seen flying round the net, the screenshot below was supposed to be the uber impressive r420 in action, LIES, its a big ass fake to be honest. Look at the screenshot below and tell me whats wrong with it?

Well for a start, you can tell this is an actual digital picture of a forest scene (look at the tree's! notice anything about them? those leaves look mighty real) just looking at the foreground you can make that out.

You see this all came about when someone said that ATi leaked the screenshot themselves then they went on record to deny they had anything to do with the picture. This is when the person who faked the screenshot came forward and released both a copy of the screenshot of "far cry" and the original they took earlier. Look at them side by side, looks impressive when you first see it and its a decent photoshop creation, had me fooled for the time being until I found the piccies showing it to be a fake.

    Moral of this story:

To good to be true for ATi to produce something that good

tbh, I'm not sure if anyone would have REALLY been fooled... the main reason being that if they can get that much detail into the picture, how come the gun is still the same detail as in any old bog standard version of Far Cry.

But hey, some people WILL fall for anything.

thing is when you look at the picture for the first time you scim over it and dont really pay attention to detail. Once you have a closer look at it and spend time picking bits out you can see a million and one problems with it

You can see a billion and one problems with it, at first glance. As Deckard said, no-one but the hard of thinking was going to be fooled by this, so although I don't think it needed a 'THAT PICTURE IS FAKE!' thread, I admire you for not taking the chance.

You don't need all this 'look at the trees, notice anything about them...' stuff, it doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to work out that this is a picture of a forrest, with a gun and energy bar from Far Cry imposed over the front of it.

you would be supprised by how many hardware sites (HardOCP, Virtual Hideout, OCNZ) posted this on the first day it came about as r420 screenshots so it seems it fooled a hell of a lot of the big sites.

but.. but... anyone with EYES (that function) can tell that's fake... the light's all different on the background compared to the gun...

the gun is a big give away, so is the stream and look closely in the background through the tree's you can see a fault on the photoshop'd image. On a side note, it would be interesting to see how the r420 is shapng up as it supposed to be released this summer isn't it?

It's as simple as - there is no graphics card that has technology to render that in real time. Also, Far Cry looks nothing like that anyway.

i dont think anyone who has played far cry would be fooled by that
although in the second screenshot down look at the sand and dirt on the river bank it looks a bit like a flat texture also the ferny kinda plant to the left in the fore ground looks a bit computerized.
how many generations of graphics card do you reckon it will be till we get graphics cards that good from when this next generation comes out?
