Half-Life made into a movie... ?

Hey all,

Dunno if you guys know, but Aliens vs Predator is being made into a movie, and is gonna be released in august. It's not exactly based on the games, but runs along the same lines.

So do you think they will ever make half-life (one or two) into a move ?
Im sure i heard ages ago that dimension files where looking into it, but dunno if anything ever came of it.
I hope someone dose one day, They should, cause hl must have a hudge fan base and they probably would make loads of dosh..

He's got a point, there's very little interaction between Gordon and other characters, and it's not an all-out gunfest either.

Aww don't say that.. It would be interesting to see who would play Gordon, and hear the voice of freeman for the first time, not to mention seeing all the characters brought to life.
The story would probably be different anyway, like with the Avp movie.
That has really made me sad.. lol

If someone did do it then the plot would have to be severely padded out as theres not enough story in it to make a film out of it.

Videogames/books generally don't make good films in my opinion anyway.

Leave Half-Life as a game.

A film that had hints of the Half-Life world/plot would be good, but nothing based directly upon the game.

look at what they did to Judge Dred as a prime example of what happens to comics or games made into films.

But still, some good points being made, if it was made into a film, it wud have to be padded out, not like ya can show hours on end of gordon running round owning boxes with a crowbar, one time only view, lol. Personally id go see it if someone made one, maybe if they made it a 2 parter, one film, half life one and 2 stories put together or something.............

There have been scripts made and proposals shown to Gabe, but he's turned everyone of them down for being crap. Apparently he would consider it though... Just need the right script.

I can see the poster tagline "Come get some - Summer 2005" hmmm maybe that sounds too much like a dodgy pr0n flick.

What I meant by it was that they usally miss out bits of the story/cut bits out (prime example harry potter) which having read the book the film was based on doesn't make the film as good, imo anyway.
Having never read either jurassic park or lord of the rings (tried, bored me to death) I couldn't really comment on either, but jurassic park rocked (1st one anyway). Though lord of the rings did suck as far as im concered but thats probably because its not my kind of film.

lol, oh yeah i forgot they would have to buy the rights of Gabe or sommet wouldn't they, So does that mean that if a film of hl was made gabe & valve would be getting some of the profits ?

I dont know, if they wangled it into more story based (obviously) with the G-man and an Xfiles twist of aliens and government conspiracy while he has to fight his way out of the labs (ok that can get a bit tedious, but resident evil did it). It has the potential of a half decent flick, if done right and you dont get some obvious action hero to play freeman and dont end up with a cross between a music video and a terminator movie.

edit: actually the more i think about it the more i can see it being "hollywood-ised": No, he's a theoretical physist NOT an uber built, kung-fu able army guy in disguise. Yes, make him think and show off his intelect. He's more likely to outsmart them than outgun them.
Cool alien guns = the win, but only if done correctly (not talking ghostbusters here).
