you actually had to ask?
Without a doubt all the gamers that loved HL and the addons such as CS ( millions alone here ) are all anticipating HL2 and CS:Source. Halo didn't float any boats for me. It was a fps shooter, whereas HL was groundbreaking, both in graphics and storyline. Halo 2 better be more of an improvement - I was very disgusted at the rushed "console" port that they released for the PC overall.

hl storyline? IT WAS CRAP!!!!
Anyway isnt "bigness" judged by sales? I think then the sims would have been a better comparason. If you mean which will be best, I think you missed doom3 off the list

Telling you here and now,
Half Life 2 - The better game Halo 2 - Outsells Half Life 2 by a country mile. Consoles are simply more accessible to Joe Public who doesn't have the first notion of how a monster of a PC will work. Xbox is a case of stick the disc in and play whereas a big pc is needed to run HL2 which the average person doesn't have an interest in spending money on. Ok here on the forums we are a clean cut above the rest of the World (figuratively) when it comes to our PCs and our knowledge of them so we'll probably say Half Life 2 and we would like to think Half Life 2 will sell more - it won't.

HL one was crap. The only thing that kept it alive was the mod's.
Halo was crap, boring and repetitive. The winner with the sequels?. Oh thats easy....whoever throws the most money at marketing. Selling titles isnt no longer about making good games, its about who can throw the most cash at promoting a game and making it "well known". Halo was "ok" for a console. Nothing new, nothing groundbreaking, just another FPS with updated graphics to show the XBOX's power. However, it dont matter which magazine you picked up, or which console bundle you wanted to buy, the chances are Halo was involved. This "force feeding" of the game to people makes them think they are not "cool", or their opinion is wrong if they dont like the game. So off they go, telling everyone how "cool" this game is...when half of the time they havnt even played it ![]() I can remember seeing the exact same thing happen at work (GAME) last Christmas. The amount of kids that came in and wanted need for speed underground because "ive seen it on TV and it looks gud", "its the best racing game ever", and one of my favorites that i heard "you can race cars and stuff". It doesnt matter that the game is utter *****. It doesnt matter that the game offers nothing new. It doesnt even matter that the game is practically the same as other games released with a few new car models and maps added, along with some "bad boy" music for good measure. Its freaking ridiculous. Im going to sound so old here, but what happened to the days of creativity when a new game was released, it really did offer something new? Ill tell you what, they died when scum like EA and publishers decided they knew what was best for the market...umm..sorry, i mean their pockets. The current state of the games market is shameful. Just go into your local games shop and see how many PC titles are based around World War 2, or another lame FPS thats been done to death. I wish people would just wake up and say "that game was utter crap, what the hell is EA doing" ?, but no, we wouldnt want to go against the grain would we..... Im not even going to get started on football games here....

Agent - How many new concepts are there out there for games to be based on!!? I cant think of a single aspect of imagination (maybe you have more imagination that me...) that has not been covered in some respect by games. It is cheaper and easy for game manufacturers to just cover one area over and over.
Back on topic....out of halo 2 and HL2, HL2 will sell lots more i think, HL was so popular, and the mods are pretty outstanding. How many people are still playing HL based games!!!? Millions each day, how many are still playing Halo after completing it? not as many as HL+mods put together i guess.

The console market has far bigger sales than the PC games market gets (i think...). Half Life 2 will be a bigger game than Halo 2 within it's own market, although I think Halo 2 will beat it on the sales front. |
