If someone does release it early you can bet your house that everyone else will follow suit. Just as steve said though it will take a big chain of stores to break it before everyone else will let the game loose.

Maybe Id will jump the release date themselves to cut their loses with people downloading the cracked version...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3527332.stm ...says that the 50,000 copies of the game being downloaded on Sunday amounts to £1.5m in lost sales...If I were Id I'd get retailers to start selling as soon as it's in stock...although I'm probably overestimating the impact of piracy on Doom III total sales...

IMO just because someone downloaded it doesnt mean they wont buy it as well.
They just being particularly dumb or not in the real world when doing a staggered release. If they released it everywhere at once people are then not given a reason to pirate it, Matrix Revolutions stylee. However people have no problem at all in terms of concience or guilt when they know they are going to buy it....

just an idea, an early demo would of been nice, people would download that for sure, and maybe cut down on the amount of warez n such, and like you say, alot of people will get it, and then proceed to buy it.. a kinda test before you buy thing.. but if a demo was released.. duno.. just thinking :>
er, if your northbridge fan is humming loudly, disconnect it. _dont_ kick the side of the case, it _will_ break it.
