Beta Catalyst 4.9 drivers Especially for the Doom 3 release

    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-...7a-017086E.exe

I havent tried them myself yet (Just got in from work)
But the 4.8 beta's fixed shadow problems in Thief deadly shadows and also seemed faster so hopefully these 4.9 drivers still have these fixes and a speed increase to Doom 3 for ATI owners

Remember they are BETA though so use at your own risk..

I remember when i sold my brother my 9700np when i bought my 9800 pro to replace his ti4200.

He was amazed at who much faster his D3D games ran especially Morrowind and how much better it looked, but when i ran any OpenGL based games he wasn't nearly as impressed especially with SOF2 and neverwinter nights.
(He felt it ran faster with his GF4!)

OpenGL is definetly there achelles heel..

And Linux, which runs OGL also, making it doubly worse Do beta's have a v3.x numbering then? Cos i'm on cat's 4.7 already?

    oh should have put 4.9

Also for everyone here the Beta's are un-official with no support from ATI at all, here's a link for you to read (if you want).

I've had no performance issues at all with Doom3. Running it on ATI 9800Pro at 1280x1078 and have not had gameplay issues. Don't think I'll bother with the beta drivers, I'll wait till the offical release is out.

I've got a game play issue, maybe someone can help me.

What happens is, I start the game, and then all I can do is walk through these really dark tunnels, shooting monsters. Then I walk some more, and shoot some more, and it all gets very tedius.

Where's the rest of the game? Must be a bug or something. Can anyone help?

A bit of game play would have been nice. Even FarCry had those lovely Islands. Still, that is Doom I suppose, just what passed for game play back when Doom was released doesn't anymore, no matter how good the game looks.

    Roll on Half Life II...

Cummon Vaul, give it a chance. After all you are probably not even an hour into the game...

I'm sure the story will develop well in the coming sections of the game.

I suppose I will be able to see how it plays when it's released in the shops...

I can't believe the amount of people from the UK on these forums who claim they have a legal copy of it.
