    Angry Planetside = pants

    I don't know how many of you have had this game, but after a friend of my said how good it was I took the plunge....

    Well, after far too much downloading for my liking, was it really worth it. As much as I like the premise, it just refused to get its act together. Connection was a lottery, multiple random crashes, bugs in the training section, and I encountered problems with vehicles (unable to deploy the ANT). Anyone else out there got any thoughts on this. IMHO it has the scope to be a great game, but after a day of frustration, this is going to be consigned to the bin.

    persevere with it mate - it really is a good game, especially when you get in a decent outfit and start going out on organised strikes to kill those TR scum and VS n00bs

    what connection are you on? it could be behind your problems

    But I am a VS noob, don't think the grief system will like me going rogue, the connection is a 1 Mb broadband link. I checked the planetside website, and have change settings on my firewall (and also tried disabling it) but there are all too frequent problems logging in. I'm going to persevere for a while on the basis that I have a month for free, but if these problems don't iron themselves out soon ....

    I didn't have that many crashes or bugs, it may depend on your config. I notice your pc is severely overclocked - not all games like that, i am not sure what planetsides attitude to this is though. As for offline training - that is buggy and shouldn't really be touched past the first crash you encounter in it. Some nice VS will show you what to do if you ask nicely. Just join a squad and ask them all in turn so that you don't end up harassing the one person.

    As for patches. Well. I can't see any other way to get updates and new content to a 3gb game without some big patches. It only took me about an hour to patch it on 1Mb broadband iirc, and considering it doesn't require you to queue on fileplanet and juggle a bunch of patches yourself i reckon its quite a good job that it does.

    I am assuming you are playing on Werner. I doubt you'd coincide with server maintenance so i don't think i can immideatelly help you with connection problems.

    Deploying ANT - where? Is it in virtual training? If so - you can only deploy them if they are in warp gates or near a bases silo. It also has to be an ant unlocked to you. If you are trying to deploy an ant in WG or indeed near a not completely full silo of a friendly or neutral base - then i don't know, I am assuming you parked it in the right place.

    Planetside takes a bit of learning but it does give enormous rewards. I am having a break from it atm but i will be back.

    My cpu's not overclocked anymore, I had a few problems in the hot weather, so it's running at stock speeds at the moment. I know more or less what I need to do, but I was going to use the ANT for a few experience points (and it's a bit quicker than running everywhere), but it won't deploy. I am pressing "B" for the vehicle special action, but it's being a bit stubborn. I did get it to charge once at the warp bubble (but haven't managed it since), but even when I got the message saying I could deploy in a friendly base (90% reserves) it wouldn't deploy. I know that this is a small part of the game, but it seemed to be a good way to progress a little at the start, until I had some more certs and could be competitive.

    The game is extremely repetitive, i played it for a few months. You need a good amount of RAM to run it too. I needed 1GB XL to make it run smooth

    You deploy ant from the outside by walking to its behind and pressing "g" when you are in correct position, not from inside iirc.

    Yes its repetitive, but so is life. I take breaks from it then get another month and enjoy it. By that time something new is usually added too.

    You can however make it less repetitive by trying different things. It does give you some choice which is more than things like counter-strike do. And i managed to find that enjoyable for a couple of years.

    Cheers for that, hopefully then that (deployment) is one less problem, I'll give it a whirl later to see if I can get it working. As for the connection, I guess I'll just cross my fingers. Once I'm in it seems okay, although it crashed at one point and restarted my PC - doh! Or, maybe I'll just shoot people from now on
