    Which MMORPG?

Now I have got Broadband I would like to make the most of it and try online gaming. which MMORPG would be suitable for a casual player? At the moment Everquest 2 is looking like a good option but I'm open to alternatives.

    Thanks

I don't really know much about Everquest 2 but World of Warcraft is amazing

"The month-to-month subscription plan will cost £8.99 per month, the three-month plan will cost £8.39 per month, and the six-month plan will cost £7.69 per month"

So you can get it a bit cheaper if you go for 6 months

I don't think there's any game that'll let you pay for the time you play, rather then paying by month. That's the way it is I'm afraid.

£8.99 a month isn't a lot compared to other MMORPG's and it also isn't a lot for such a fantastic game!

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

If you dont want to pay monthly and have that comitment Guild Wars is going to be subs free. Thinking of getting that myself as I play too many other agmes to justfy monthly subs.

You won't regret it, top quality game. A fair few on Hexus feel the same. Shame you didn't get a place on the beta

    Red face

I play a lot of MMORPGs and out of all the online games availible, there is only really one game that is good for the casual player... World of Warcraft.

    Games to avoid are:

    Final Fantasy XI
    Everquest 2
....and some people would say Star Wars Galaxies

In those games above, once you reach mid levels, you really do need to give a minimum of 3-4 hours playtime to actually gain any sort of progress. And a lot of the time even 4 hours isn't enough for a game like FFXI.

I imported FFXI from Japan when it was only availible there, and the shear amount of time you need to waste to actually get anything at all is unbelievable. Sometimes you would have to wait over 4 hours alone just to get a party/group and even then there is a high probablity that the people in the party dont know what the hell they are doing lol. FFXI = Avoid!

Everquest 2 is similar to this (as was EQ 1) but it was no where NEAR as servere as FFXI. But the big grind is still there.

World of Warcraft will give you the option of playing for an hour or so, being able to progress through the game. However I cant say much about the end-game (I'm not there yet).

Another game that I enjoy most out of MMORPGs is Star Wars Galaxies, which I'm surprised so many people dont like. I'm not really even a big fan of the movies but the game has a great endgame and sense of progression (well IMO it does). There is always something to do, and everything is varied and different. The empire vs the alliance gives a great deal of roleplaying (if your into that sort of stuff) with people who form guilds just to roleplay. This alone makes it special compared to other games, and the Jump to Lightspeed exspansion adds a whole new world to the MMORPG.

Anyway, thats my thoughts about MMORPGs. I think World of Warcraft would be the best choice

Brought EQ2 to try and kill time after US beta ended and before euro WoW Beta started / wow retail released... what a waste of £30! I played it for about 5 hours and found it so slow and boring compaired with WoW!

Played Galaxies for over a year and its alright but again nothing compaired the how much loving wow

Only problem with WoW is its dangerously addictive. For that reason alone I wont be buying it (at least nto straight away_ just going to play for a week or so on the beta then return to real life.

I'm a guild leader in EQ2 and some of my members went to WoW, but some have also come back. They are basicaly the same game. WoW looks more cartoony, and is aimed more towards the casual player. EQ2 is more system hungry and needs a LOAD of time devoted to it at later levels. (Im a 45 assassin on Splitpaw) And neither are a challenge... They both have quests, they both have equipment, they both have fans. WoW does have PvP though, and EQ2 doesn't.

Swings and roundabouts mate. But identical. EQ2 does offer a station pass tho for $20ish a month i think, lets you play SWG, EQ, Planetside and EQ2, along with a couple of other unknown online games.
