    Elite 4 Release date

    Just seen this on play.com

    http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=r...C&title=680942

Is this confirmation that the game is finally going to be released(albeit in a year)?

    Cannot wait!

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

According to Frontier's website, they haven't announced a release date yet.

I'll give Mr Braben a buzz tomorrow and ask him, shall I?

    I've just spoken to Frontier.

They have asked PLay.com to remove the page or change the date to 'TBA' as there is NOTHING set in place at this time.

That's the official word from the company run buy Elite's co-writer, so I'd take it as Play perhaps chancing their arm a little?

Is it me but is braben a man just stuck in a rut trying to relive his glory days?

    Yep, too harsh.

The guys is working on loads of new stuff and actually trying to get away from the whole 'Elite creator' thing.

He's a really nice bloke and comes across very much as a reluctant celebrity almost... of course, my grovelling at his feet and begging for Elite 4 probably made him feel uncomfortable...

I'm a big fan of elite in the bbc micro - heck, it probably got me into computing as much as anything else but i've not really seen anything since that's grabbed my attention. Frontier was fun - but only for a while - and it's over obsession with real-world simulation (annoying braking for example) detracted from the experience. Nothing against the guy, and i'd greet any new game with an open mind, but when are we going to see something on a modern PC from him that makes as go 'wow'?

^^ I agree - all elite really needs is the graphics updating imho. It used to be great - My bro and I used to pilot the ship, me on the joystick shooting and him doing all the camera switching and management.

The radar system was the most perfect I've ever seen and doing a fuel scoop run over a sun was great.

Although the Spectrum version played twice the speed of the BBC .. but the BBC was incredible for squeezing the game in a mere 32K (or was that about 28k with the screen mode it used?)

Yes, I agree, but, according to Frontier, not of their doing... They say Play.com has got it into their heads somehow..

Yay! Old skool c64 vs speccie vs amstrad rumble! Watch out for the speccy geek boys who have bbc's at home. I only had the c64 version and that was great!
