StarCraft is by far the best RTS game. C&C:The First Decade and total annihilation are also worth checking out.

SC is the most popular RTS game out there (more popular than all FPS games) and the competition is incredibly stiff if you want it to be.

these days, that's Blizzard's domain. Warcraft 3, or STarcraft, are wise choices (though, as before, quite old)

Racing games

can't help here, the PC is not where i'd ever play a racing game

hrm, well you might want to disregard some of the above, then. i like games with some actual content & story - i get bored very quickly of the lack of imagination in online-focused games, so my games choices are usually optimised for single player

You can get Tron 2.0 for less than a fiver in some places too, I played it a month or two back, the graphics are still real nice
