What are the best settings to go with to improve latency in online games, mainly WoW

Putting this in here cos I don't think it belongs in the networking forum.

Im a big WoW player but have been plagued by horrible lag problems, usually getting d/n in raids etc for no reason.

I was on ADSL max but went back to fixed 2mb as I got hundreds of errors by using it.
I still get the odd error but I'm still lagging in the games.

I've just ordered a Draytech VG as that must help and am thinking about switiching ISP's as I think my ping is quite bad.

I had BT out and they said the line was fine with no errors at all.

I have updated all drivers everywhere, allowed everything in my router etc (using a D Link GSM 624m , piece of junk really)
The worst bit is I play with my g/f at the same time on 2 pc's and she can be playing fine but I will lag like a mutha.
I don't have any port throttling or anything like that and sometimes it will happen visa versa to her.

Just really want to get back to normal as we're of to BWL soon in guild and I wont be allowed on raids if my connection is unstable.
Im in a new house but before we would play on a 1mb line with no problems at all.

Are there any tips or tricks or anything I can do to get all possible bandwidth or set priorties to keep the game as stable as poss?

Are you using the wireless option or wired option for the router? (wired tends to give lower pings...)
Are there any other internet dependant programs open (MSN, AIM, Skype, BitTorrent etc) if so turn them off.

Otherwise it could very well be the ISP's fault (bloody tiscali must hate me...., I get approx 80ms pings two days a week and the other days it jumps to 300ms!)
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

Well if a different computer on the same netwrok gets a much better ping. Obviously you haven't changed any hardware, so that leaves software, or more importantlly malware. Downloaded something dodgy while you had loats of ADSLmax bandwidth.

Unless your girlfriend is sneaky and prioritised her network port over yours, then I suggested you familiarise yourself with hijackthis and run a proper virus scan.

Im hard wired in on both pcs.

G/f knows nothing about pc's lol so she hasnt done anything and my router wont allow for port throttling, I have everything shut down, run a full virus and spyware check twice a week and nothing shows.
Some times it happens the other way round, she will lag and I'll be fine.

    Im using Bitdefender and Lavasoft.

Can anyone recomend any better programs.

Have you tried setting the network card settings to what blizzard recommend? Somewhere on the official forums is a post about it.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Let me guess, your using cosmos right? and some other custom plugins (probably Ct_raid, maybe auctioneer and probably group calendar)?

Theres currently a bug with cosmos (both in the release and alpha builds) that makes you disconnect when in instances in either a Part or a Raid - at random intervals.

It might not happen some times, but since last weeks patch i've had it happen 10 times. 6 of those times was in a UBRS raid, and the others were just normal groups in strat/scholo.

Theres 2 ways to fix this - well both work arounds really. The first is to un-install cosmos and wait until theres a fix for it...but this is not ideal, as I like cosmos
The second is to put up with the first disconnect that you get - and then when you log in again immediately leave the party/raid. You then have 60seconds to get a re-invite (else you will be harthed back automatically). Then you should have no more problems for a while..This is what I've been doing..its just a real pain when it happened while I was tanking drakki caused a wipe heh...so i hope its fixed soon

edit: some more observations - this only seems to happen when other people in your raid/party have at least one of the same addons as you, and as I said it doesn't happen to everyone (so its perfectly possible for people with cosmos to have had no problems yet)

Nope not using cosmos at all.

I do use a few mods but to check I have disabled them all, even done a fresh reinstall with no mods whatsoever so I can clearly say its not a mod issue.

I recon your router has some sort of higher or stack-level QOS going on. all decent network devices do but yours is giving higher precedence to one or the other session.
