    AoE III res. probs

    Hi all,
am having trouble with my current install of Age of Empires III. First install went fine, but then I was messing with the res to see if it would go higher than my current 1024x768, put it on something higher (can't remember what, but not that much higher ) and it set, then the screen went black and displays the monitor native message 'VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED'. So, all I can do is ctrlaltdel as I can't bloody see anything to change it back! I tried reinstalling but the same problem remains like the setting was saved. Anyone know whether there's an out of game way to change the res? Or any other ideas?
    Cheers,
    Million

have a rummage thru 'program files' even after uninstalling it may of left a config file of some sort...

if not, have a play wiv ur gfx card settings, u should be able to lock to a specific res regardless of wat an app wants it at

Browse through to this folder (might be different on your install)
My Documents, My games, Age of empires 3, Users,

You will see a file called NewProfile.xml

    Open it in notepad

    Scroll through till you spot

    <Setting Name="optiongrfxres">1920 x 1200</Setting>

Thats what it is on mine, i presume the res will be different for you, change it back to what you need save and start the game.

    hope that helps

Thanks nimbu, I tried what you suggested but it didn't work - in the document it had the resolution set as 1024x768, which is correct...

Check that u did the right one, as I did edit my post after i made it.

The file in my original post doesnt seem to change, where as the post above the file does actually change.

Also one would assume that the second file (one above) is in your My documents, hence reinstalling the game doesnt change anything. Worst case move that file to your desktop and run the game and see what happens.
