    HL2: Episode 1

I've been playing this recently and been experiencing a lot of problems - a lot of crashes. Has anyone else seen this and are there any fixes for it?

    Thanks

    Andy

what system specs? I have never had any crashes in this game at all :S... should be standard to post ur specs so people can see what problems could arise. If its a new card then its prob graphics drivers (or espcially if SLI/Crossfire)

    Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ

Sorry i thought my system spec was in "my system" but, for some reason it wasn't (i had previously put them in ) anyway it's there now, all other games have run flawlessly apart from oblivion which crashes on exit, but i presumed this was a common problem.

    Thanks

    Andy

Nevermind, completed it anyway with numerous crashes in between, its not an isolated problem i was seeing, did a search for it and valve know about the bug but haven't gotten round to fixing it yet. Odd though how i've not seen it in any other source based games :/ if anyone's interested in the issue do a search for datacache.dll on google.

Edit: despite it's bugs it was pretty cool to play too.

I got random crashes when loading my saved levels lots of times!
I also get very occasional crashes on CS:S when changing maps.

Never had a problem with my steam account but find the game a graphics nightmare on an Ati x300. Good luck with fixing the bug.

I have this problem too, if i'm on the same server for a while, during one of the map changes steam will crash completely just as its about to finish loading, have no idea why that is though.

My thought is that there is a memory or resource leak in the Steam/CS:S engine and after a few loads/map changes it's all too much for poor Steam and it has to have a rest!

If I even find a solution (or reason) then I will post to the forums...

I got crashes all the time, it took me weeks to finish since I could only play it for more than 2 minutes on the 'lucky' days.

I'm seriously considering not getting EP2... but then I would miss out on Portal and TF2.
