PS3 vs Wii - My first impressions

Well guys, Ive just got back from a press thingy at work (Science Museum London) because we have just got our hands on a PS3 and a Wii for the Game On exhibit we current have here. Spent all morning playing on the Wii (Wii sports) & PS3 (Motorstorm).

PS3 was as to be expected, shiny but boring. The game isnt great, its pretty but not great. Press came in, ran straight to it, took lots of photos of the actual console, took a couple of people playing and then that was it.

Wii was brilliant fun, everyone was crowded round it and press going nuts with photos of tennis, golf and boxing (Think boxing went down best) - Its surprisingly tiring trying to beat the crap out of you fellow workers.

Everyone there including the press i spoke too were much more impressed with the Wii than the PS3 but that is too be expected since the PS3 had a crap game which is v. lone playing while the Wii got everyone involved.

It did find it amusing that the PS3's box had so many holes in it there might aswell not have been on while the Wii say happily enclosed in its holeless box...

PS3 going to burn your house down

Its cool to get a Hexus member opinion of both consoles running.

I do really want the Wii but I'd have no time to play it and if I did get it I'd have to waste time deciding between my 360 and the Wii... I mean come on, thats just not fair!

Didnt bring my camera in today, I'll ask some of the other guys and see if they have any, or if the press was handing any to them.

If not ill get some when I can.

BTW the exhibit is re-open for everyone tomorrow (costs tho ) so anyone in London may want to come and see if they can get a go.

theres a shop in brighton that's got a ps3 you can play on too.. if anyones down here had a go on it the day before yesterday, i thought it was pretty much as shiney as a 360, but not *much* better.. basically, so close that the graphics are not going to be determining factor - to me.. more the games available, possably the blue-ray/hd-dvd drive, and, most likely, brand awareness and pricing

Yup, games are everything really. PS3 seems to be all Eye-candy at the moment, and little substance. I didn't mind watching Charlies Angels 2, but I wouldn't recommend it either (though I probably would pay £499 to play with Lucy Lu and Cameron Diaz).

lol the amount of people I hear say that when i say where I work.. end of the day its the same as every other IT job but we have less money

The novelty of working at this place wears off very quickly as nothing changes and this is the 1st interesting exhibit that we have had in the 2 years I've been here

    Leaving in Jan anyway

Thank god for that...I thought I was the only one finding it incredibly annoying!

Anyway great to see the Wii is getting such a great reception, I was starting to think that everyone was blinded by the science in the PS3, which as great as the bits are, it will be standard, uninspiring game line up which will put me off. I mean how many more times can Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid be made? How big is Final Fantasy going to get before really can't be bothered to finish it? How many new 'cool' elements can be added to Need for Speed series (and while were on there was police chases in the older versions). Tomb Raider, that was old by number 3. Obviously there are series fanboys out there and there are (poor, unknowledgable) general public.

the only reason to buy the wii is zelda. Other than that there isnt much on it. Alot of Wii is just minigames, the ps3 will get some good development, resistence looks great. i would buy a wii though if it had a better release lineup, I cant justify buying one just for zelda right after buying a 360.

but I thought you guys got your fix out of my contribution and then flaming me

especially greektony, he's my biggest fan! (hi there buddy)

you know there's a very fine line between trolling and a contributive post... at least according to the home-made definition by some hexus users... I urge you to look up the other unofficial meaning... some won't survive in other places due to being so touchy about the whole thing I can assure you of that much. But I didn't know it would hurt so bad to see some smashed electronics... don't watch topgear car lovers!
