Xbox 360 XviD streaming help needed please.

There seems to be a lot of different tutorials with differnt ways to stream xvid/divx from a pc through an xbox, so I was wondering...

What is currently the best method and what software will I need?

I have XP home or Vista rc2 to play with.

If you need any more info, let me know cheers

Get TVersity, and this article tells you how to set it up

    http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1002/

If you can play it on your PC, you can play it on your 360 as it transcodes on the fly to WMV - while it takes a few seconds to get started after selecting a video on the 360, I haven't seen any problems while playing. Oh, and Windows Firewall doesn't seem to like it, remember to turn off WMP/Zune/MCE media sharing if you've got it on as it interferes.

Try Transcode 360. It's an excellent program and is currently in the beta stages for Vista. www.runtime360.com

I looked at that too Odc, but it's only for MCE. In fact I would rather have done it that way, but I opted for Pro instead of MCE when buying for my new system. It's definitely soemthing I'll keep my eye on for Vista when I'll have MCE capability again. Cheers

Im stuggling with TVersity on both XP home and vista.

I can get it to display in explorer, but not firefox, and then when it does display, it doesnt say @c:\ in the big white box on the right.

ALso, when i go to add files, there is no browse button, but Im guessing that is because it cant see the c:\ drive?

The firewall has full permision, I have even turned it off.

    So Im stuck.

Going to try transcode 360 vista version

What about double-clicking the tray icon - does that not bring it up?

Yes the normal version is only for MCE but Vista comes with the whole MCE bundle thing anyway so there is a seperate Vista version of Transcode 360.
    Here it is.

It just brings up the main screen with the blank white box on the right.

Installed the transcode 360 vista version, but it crashes before it even opens properly, so I tried to uninstall it and it said to make sure that I had stopped it before uninstalling, then it crashed again.

Ive not had this much fun since windows 98.

The Tversity GUI will only work properly in IE or the standalone GUI that comes with

Make sure the icon in the system tray is green/blue and not red.

To add media, click the big + icon in the top left, choose add folder, then click on Browse in the bottom right of that screen.

If you have a lot of files in that folder, it will take a while to index them all.

As for your firewall, make sure you have TVersity permission to be a server and that you have TCP and UDP ports 41952 open

escape fails - in it for the women and money check out the demo, we rock

    I was using IE7.

When I click the icon to add files, there is no button to browse. I think this is because C:\@ isnt visible in the right hand side white window.

Firewall is off and router was on dmz, but tried it without and still nothing happening.

    Its cursed

IE7 shouldn't matter - it worked on my system with IE7 and this when I had a play with it over xmas.

However - it did keep stopping for no apparent reason so I uninstalled this and have gone back to pairing the xbox360 to the Media Centre as opposed to the TVersity software.

We've done exactly the same thing last night to my friends new MCE pc.

    http://www.jakeludington.com/xbox/20...streaming.html

The above is the method we used. I don't think its the clearest install guide, but if you have a MCE pc remember the following and you'll be fine.

Install the decoding software it tells you
Share your divx/xvid folder on the windows pc
Turn your xbox 360 into a Extender
Work out which control button gives you the options on a film (relates to quote below, reference it with the guide and you should see)

Once you add functionality, simply locate a DivX or XviD file on your hard drive by browsing through the My Videos list on your MCE PC. Select the video you want to play and press the Info button on your remote to bring up the options menu. Choose More form the list.
Sorry this doesn't strictly answer the OP's question but it should maybe help a few others
