Gears of War for PC.....No time soon

I had hopes this might happen but it doesn't look like it will at this point. Ah well.

That sounds about right if it comes out at all. It's stupid if the game companies are holding off the PC just in the hope that it'll aid XBOX 360 sales.

what is it with pc gamers who demand every game come out for pc, regardless of any detrimental effects to the game experience?

Heh same as for every other type of system owner who demands it out on their system

Mind you that's not as brainless as people demanding for it to be exclusive only.

What effect would porting it to the PC have on existing X360 users? None at all! The game they play would still be as good

Isn't it in the games' companies interest to try to sell to as wide an audience as possible though? Plus you could make the argument that PC games have been dumbed down a bit for console compatibility so shouldn't we get something back the other way!?

I can't get on with consoles (bloody fiddly controllers) and don't want to buy one but I would quite like to have a blat on Gears of War.. preferably with a mouse and keyboard combo..

Having said that, I won't be utterly heartbroken if GoW doesn't come out for the PC, it's just something I might have a go at if it did.. (shrugs)

GoW would be a substantially different game with a keyboard and mouse, and suffer as a result

^Yeah but it's alright for you multiple thumb/finger using people - console controllers are all wrong for someone like me - if I've not played it on a console how am I going to notice the difference?

By that argument no driving or flight sim games should come out on the PC either.

EA will release a game on any format powered by "electricity", and the new Abacus4000 that isn't. other than those jokers, which driving games or flight sims a) are released on consoles then ported to pc and b) work well with keyboard & mouse?

What has porting got to do with it? I thought your arguement was purely that the game experience with keyboard and mouse would be crap. I was saying so is MS flight sim.

Point is that PC gamers don't just use keyboard and mouse - we plug in gamepads, joysticks, steering wheels, whatever is needed to give us the best game experience.

It would however have to be changed and designed to work with keyboard / mouse over everything else which I agree with the top would loose something. Some games just play better on PC, others just play better on consoles

i'm pretty sure i said something along the lines of GoW being a different and inferior game with a keyboard & mouse. hey, lookie!

i'm pretty sure i didn't say anything about flight simulators or games in general in that, though correct me if i'm wrong.

games are developed with a particular platform in mind. nine times out of ten, a shift in platform results in an inferior experience. reckon command & conquer was any good on the n64, with a pad? of course not, that's a job for a pc that is.

as for the "pc gamers plug stuff in" argument, it's flawed for two reasons.

firstly, the immense diversity of peripherals for pc means you can't get a consistent experience. written a game that needs 10 buttons and 2 axis? only got an 8-button pad? tough.

secondly, for every pc gamer who spend money on a joypad, about ten thousand don't. they're also the kind of gamers who have a geforce 5200 rather than 8800. you simply can't build any reliance on these peripherals into your games if you want them to sell - and as a result, you have to program for the lowest common denominator (mouse & keyboard). and if that lowest common denominator is radically different from the originally intended platform, then you've made a substantially different game - usually for the worse.
