I was about at the same stage. Cloud, and the rest of my party, had jacked up stats, game completed, Ruby and Emerald weapons beaten, and the other two easy ones.

Bloody 1 million hit-point fights... takes hours to beat them, watching the Knights of the Round casting over and over...

yeah well... Ruby weapon was EASY.

start with two of your party dead. therefore he cant whisk them away.

    Then cloud 4x-cut, cid 4x cut - 80,000
    vincent KOTR twice using W-Sum
Cloud 4x-cut until limit then Omnislash
    Cid KOTR or "Highwind" limit

    repeat this over and over.

    "Flash" doesnt work...

Phoenix summon paired with "Final Attack" is a MUST for especially when fighting Emerald Weapon and it uses "AIR TAM STORM"

I found the Emerald Weapon the hardest to beat, as it seemed to be able to take as many goes as it felt like, at any given time. A few times, I'd be well into the fight, and then it'd take 2 or 3 goes, and kill my party. Not sure what was going on.

Still gave it a good kicking though.

Ruby wasn't easy, due to the time it takes to beat. Still a lot harder than all versions of Sepiroth though.

    Ah, the memories.

Yeah Emerald is hard to beat.... that dam air tam storm argh... but I used to hate it... cos Im sure it could sense who had the "final attack - phoenix"

So it'd use Drain MP on cloud and then air tam storm and id have no MP left to use the final attack!!!

    DAMN THING!!!

That was the hook though... the climax. You start the game able to slap down a few henchmen, and that's it, but slowly, over the course of the game, you get so strong, that you can take down 1 million hit-point monsters, who can dish out 1000's of points of damage.

This is what added to the epic feel of the game, and made it such an all-time classic.

Reading your posts makes this game sound brilliant, but I know full well I just can't do this turn based stuff, its tedious!

If I see it cheap anywhere I may buy it (must be a few on ebay somewhere), and no doubt play it for about 10 minutes

Its by no means turn based, well, the combat is, but its not Advance Wars or Fire Emblem.

Still, even the turn based stuff gets good once the battles are invovled enough to be tactical, rather than just hack and slash. Beating the Weapons or later boses requires tacitcs and a battle plan.

It is a top notch game.

    Emerald Weapon
    Ruby Weapon
    Absolute J.E.N.O.V.A.
    Hojo
    Anti-Weapon
    Sephiroth

They all require a battle plan, just some require a brilliant plan!
