Is this the revision 3.3 DS3? I heard a few reports of it not overclocking as good as the others. Have you updated the bios to the latest one?

I'm out of ideas sorry, sounds like you have a chip or a board (or both) that dont overclock too well.

I wouldnt think it would be the psu, but weirder things have happened.

Thanks a lot for the help.

I'll just try and sort out the cooling (I think its the heatsink being a bit uneven, gonna do a bit of lapping) and then I guess I could just concentrate on playing games

Well a 6600 should be easier to get to, but yeah sp3n could you list your bios CPU memory settings , or take a pic of it?

Thanks for the guide, Clunk! I got my E6600 up to 2.7GHz last night and everything's working great - got an extra 500 marks on 3DMark06. I'll be moving things up a notch again tonight. Thanks again!

Quick one for Clunk (I hope)

I mentioned in my previous post about temps and what I was getting with no case fans installed. I have now the case fans installed and it hasnt made a massive difference in the temps.

So with the temps being around 42 idle and 60'ish load in TAT is it safe to start OC'ing considering other apps are outputting temps 15 degrees lower?

I dont want to go ahead and my the new chip too toasty so thought I would get your input/output first.

So its 42c idle at stock voltage/settings? Is that using the stock cooler?

Thats 42c idel stock settings with a AC 7 Pro. Im guessing thats bad?

Edit: Ok so I went ahead and followed your guide. All settings the same as your guide said. Ran Orthos, and it halted after about 12min. Said due to hardware failure. Shutdown machine booted up fine.

I noticed that the temps in TAT reached 65c. Core Temp however was showing more 51-53c as I said about 15c lower. Nothing in the troubleshooting guide about this. Any suggestions Clunk?

I havent used that cooler myself, but 45c idle does sound too high to me.

I would take the cooler off, re-apply some thermal paste (arctic silver 5 if you have it) and re-seat it. Dont use too much paste.

P.S. When you take off the cooler, have a look at the thermal paste that is on and it should look evenly pressed and kind of see through. It may just be that one of the clips wasnt quite in properly.

I found that TAT read way too high on some cpus, and ended up using probe and coretemp.
