Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners
Hi Clunk??How are u??
i was away for a quite long time bt now,i m back .i got my new CPU cooler [Zalman CNPS9700] and Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 2*1 GB kit. i used ur guide and oc my system to 3.2 GHZ at 1.28 V vcore with ORTHOS stress testing for 8 hrs,max temperature = 65 C. ram operating over 800 mhz with 5-5-5-12 timings. i want to hit 3.6 GHZ but my system didnt boot at 3.48 GHZ.at 3.4 GHZ,system booted but orthos stress test failed within 5 mins. ![]() shuould i increase vcore voltage?? i wanna do any kind of experiment with my E6400 as soon i will have QX6700. ny suggestions about how far i can go from 3.2 GHZ? |

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners
Thats because there is no "safe zone".
I would say that you probably wont be able to go much higher with that CPU. The P5B's chipset strap changeover happens at 400FSB, which is where you are now (400x8 right?) So, from 400FSB to around 463FSB you lose a large amount of memory bandwidth, and you system will actually run slower because of this. You can use a lower multi to try and avoid this FSB range, but, to be honest, the chances of you getting stable at 500FSB+ arent great. So, wait til you get your new CPU. |

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners
I'm not too familiar with Asrock boards, but I think if you poist your question in the general hardware section, you will get more people seeing it
![]() I remember on past Asrock boards, they were always FSB and voltage limited, and I suppose it is because they are a budget board. Sorry I cant be of more help. |

What does seem odd is your memory is showing as single, rather than dual channel.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners
About Probe, it has a MB temp which seems the same as Speedfans System temp. Is this the Nb temp of the board? And what is regarded a safe/good region?

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners
Great thread Clunk - has really helped me out
![]() One question though... why do you need to turn off EIST, Thermal Control, C1E, etc? I've done as you said and clocked my Q6600 G0 up from 2.4 to 3 GHz now. So what would happen if I turned these power-saving features back on now? |

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide for Beginners
It is because some people (myself included), find that there can be instability, especially when going for higher clocks.
If you need the power saving features, try enabling them one at a time to see how you go, and dont forget to stress test each time you change something
