| Need some headphones I've been looking at getting some better sound for my PC, but don't really want to spend £150 on some surround speakers and another £75 on some decent headphones. Therefore, I've decided that the best option would be to get a nice set of headphones. However, I'm not much of an audiophile, and as such need some advice on which set of headphones I should get. These will be used mostly for gaming (FPSs and RPGs mainly) and as such need some decent positional audio. I know that I would like some closed headphones, purely to get rid of annoying background noise. I'd also quite like some surround sound headphones so they're compatible with my 360/PS3. The audio on my PC will be coming from an X-Fi Xtreme Music. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which headphones owuld be recommended for this situation? Thanks in advance. |

| Well I use a Speedlink Medusa set with my Xtreme Music and the results are fab, in FPS style situations you can hear exactly where shots are coming from, the positioning really is good. The sound seems crisp and clear, the mic is great, the included amp means they go insanely loud (and the bass is superb) plus you can wear them for hours without the slightest discomfort. Can't recommend them enough! | If you want audiophile headphones go to head-fi.org, just try not to spend too much  AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works)  .. just incase you were wondering |

| You wont get audiophile headphones with 3D positioning. Audiophiles tend to believe that '3D' sound ruins music but if you dont know any better a good high quality set of headphones that provide positional sound should be fine for you. |

| Another Speedlink fan. Crisp sound and pretty good positioning. I was also looking at the Razer Barracuda's but they wernt out at the time. | I forgot to mention my budget. I'm looking at spending around £120, but I could stretch a little if I really needed to. I've been doing a little digging and found some nice Sennheiser HD595 headphones. Does anyone have any experience with them? My only concern is that they do not have a mic, so VOIP would be tricky. |

| What about a pair of Beyerdynamic DT231 headphones?? They cost under 40 quid and have got many good reviews!! I had a pair of the earlier versions of the dt231(not the later Galactic version) and they sounded great for closed back headphones and were very comfortable to wear too!! |

| I have DT231's and the sound good too, got mine for about £20ish from PCWorldbusiness a while back. Bloody bargain at that price and leaves you cash for a headset or even a pair of 3d headphones if you want to go that route. |

| I have the Grado SR80 and SR125 and they are both excellent - I use the SR80 for gaming purposes infact.However they are not the most comfortable headphones and I am uncertain how well they will block out sounds in a very noisy environment as they are open backed headphones. They have great stereo separation and excellent sound quality!! |
