    ATI Radeon HD 2900XT benchmarked.

Although the NDA only lifts tomorrow , it appears TweakTown.com have moved their server closer to the International Dateline in order to be first out of the blocks with a proper review of ATI's "Golden Child".

If you want to get ahead of tomorrow's deluge of reviews from the world and his wife, I suggest you point your browser in a TweakTown direction and post your initial thoughts back here.

Apparently, "Do whatever the f*#! you like" should NOT be considered authorisation to build my uber rig!

"We are having massive server issues bringing you the HD 2900 XT review.

We will put it online tomorrow when other sites release their reviews to balance the load.

Sorry but our servers aren't up to this amount of hits."

    You broke it!

Well, in AA alone, I do prefer AMD/ATi - but in their AA+AF test, I prefer the slightly sharper nVidia.

The performance is by no mean horrid, but not where I expected it to be (given that it came out a bit later). nVidia really need not be in a hurry to drop the price of the GTS (too bad). Sure there are some drivers issue (notably in HL2), but I am not convinced if it'll give the boost to decisively beat the GTS. I reckon they'll still trade benchmark victories.

It's also rather power hungry for a second-in-line. More than a GTX under load assuming their measurements are correct.

Rest to be seen if how much the XTX will improve upon this. The DailyTech gave a better impression of the XT, but an unflattering impression of the XTX. Rest to be seen if they were right on that point or not.

There was benchmarks and stuff here too:

    http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=39580

I only had a quick look, but I didn't like how they compared it to an 8800GTS and an 8800GTX Ultra Super Dooper Fancy edition. I woulda liked to have seen a normal 8800GTX in there - just for comparison purposes.

It seemed interesting anyway. Faster than the GTX in some things, and much slower than the GTX (and even the GTS) in some things. It doesn't seem worth paying much attention to at the moment though anyway, because drivers might make a huge difference. The only thing that really interested me, is that the price is really good (comparably). So it could help bring the prices of the Nvidia cards down.

i think they need to release a cheaper 256MB one to compete with the 320MB GTS which is dominating the market atm. Genrally i would say most people dont want to pay over £200 for a single componant but cant see the logic in 150 odd for a crappy 8600GTS when its 20-30 more for double the power. I dont think this card is going to do AMD/ATI any favours till they close up this bit of the market with either a HD2900 pro or 256MB HD2900XT hitting similar pricemarks as the 8600GTS/320MB 8800GTS.

This aside, IMO considering new architechture, new drivers, new operating system. I reckon once they get on their feet with the drivers it could outperform the 8800 pretty easily

It seems to be better than the GTS at the highest resolutions and does have good overclocking potential.

But it takes so much power i'm not suprised it oc's well..and I bet it gets stupidly hot.

Nice to see Guru3d.com have put up a 26-page review of the Radeon HD2000 series. They give a European take on it and do it in a "For Dummies" style that even a technonumpty like me can find easy to understand. Well worth checking out.

wow it needs some power to run though. The power consumption of graphics cards is getting out of hand.

'Contents' are in a drop-down list at the TOP of each Guru3d page. This would have helped you find Page 12
