USB memory stick recommendation...

Hello,
I'm interested in buying a USB memory stick of 4/8GB.
I'm mainly aiming for fast data transer rate: 24MB/s Read (And Higher) 18MB/s, Write (And Higher)

I want to be able to copy fast onto the USB stick, all those DivX/Xvid anime and games I download at my work pc.

This Kingston stick looks good, but it's only 4Gigs:

Or this 8Gig stick, but it’s slow:
Read 9-10 MByte/s, Write 2 MByte/s.

So, which specific stick do you guys recommend?

i personally only use sandisk cruzer titanium's, currently have a 4gb version from emartbuy (quite cheap). love them for speed, and durability as i am likely to drop it often. it also feels like a superior part.

I own the 2GB non GT version of the corsair USB memory stick and that is very quick and i have had no problems with it but the GT versions are suppose to be even quicker.

I use a sandisk cruzer 4Gb too, and I find it very good. It gets a lot of use, although with me it's more a question of taking work home.

I can highly recommend the Corsair Flash Voyager GT series, very very fast, I don’t know of any quicker, and incredibly durable. Mine’s been round the washing machine several times and when I produced it at work as indestructible a colleague grabbed it, stamped on it repeatedly and then smashed a desk leg onto it. It still works!

I've decided to go with this:

Mainly for its great speed:

The 16GB version looks cool, but it’s too slow Especially write speed:
Read speed: 22MB/s
Write speed: 7MB/s

However, after reading through some reviews regarding the Corsair rubber USB sticks, I noticed quite a few people claming that the cap is too loose, it can easily fall off and get lost. Once it's gone, the USB connector can brake easily:

The rubber casing is easily removable and runs risk of exposing inside of drive.

So, is that's true?
If that's the case I might go for a simpler Kingston stick out of hard plastic which I've tried and are great.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

We've been using Corsair Flash Voyagers at work for the last 2 years (1GB versions) and they've been fairly robust. However, 3 out of the 5 lost their rubber caps eventually. Also, 2 out of the 5 went faulty and had to be RMA'd.

To Corsair's credit, they send out replacement rubber caps for free on request. The RMA procedure for both faulty sticks was also faultless.

We now use Crucial Gizmo Overdrives (4GB) since they are faster and support Vista ReadyBoost. My comments on those would be that they don't have a proper keyring hole - just a small hole for a lanyard. And their caps seem... well, not loose, but not exactly superfirm either. So over time will probably get lost. And the max size is currently 4GB. But despite those negatives, they are great flash drives. And for some reason we got a great corporate discount from Crucial - they were <£25 each.

I've seen plenty of +ve reviews of the Sandisk Cruzer Titanium.

Corsair will send out new caps to the cap-impaired for free. I love flash voyagers they're great Rubberised casing stops it falling out of pockets, survives washing machines and feels niiiice

Corsair GT, They really do fly and actually get damn close
to what they are rated at. They were less than £30 on ebuyer
but have gone up. You sometimes see them on scan today
only for £30. Thats the 4 GB one.

I've just ordered 2 of the 2gb GT's for work, I'll let you know what I think of them.

Nice to know that corsair will replace lost caps.

the main problem we've ha in the past with other brands is the keyring loops breaking.

Once you know they work fine (so you don't have to send it back) epoxy a short lenth of fishing line to the cap, tie the other end to the keyring hole.

P.S. I use Sandisk cruzer micro, they have a retractable thumb drive. Not really sure how fast they are, as never benchmarked them, also, I think the largest size is only 4GB, so maybe not big enough for your needs.

Just been looking at some reviews, the scandisk Cruzer Titanium is fast (although not quite as fast as the GT) and very robust, so far it's the only stick to fully survive Scott's "runover by a car" test Linky

The GT failed the test but only as one of the connections to the PCB from the USB plug broke linky

I've got a couple of SanDisk's USB memory sticks and never had problems with them at all. SanDisk got a nice range from whcih you can choose. You should be able to find the one that suits your needs better.
