my first voltage sensor gives me reading of 2.64v and 2nd 3.41v 3rd 3.28v.... identical to everest.. 1. cpu core 2. AUX 3. 3.3v readings.. as for temp sensors only thing that gives me a reading is motherboard temp.. tried #9-12 on custom and all other settings??

hi, read your guide was really good, i seem to be having a problem though.
I have the P2KC mobo and changed all the settings as shown in the screenshots and so forth, but whatever happens i cannot get the ram to fsb ratio to change from 2:1. Currently cpu-z says my bus speed is 200mhz and my ram frequency is 400mhz a 2:1 ratio.

If possible i can provide screenshots of my bios, but whatever i seem to do i cannot get the ratio to change as a result cannot clock my board.

You mean the P5KC?

Up the FSB to 301 and you should see a 1:1 setting in the dividers.

Also, make sure your BIOS is fully up to date.

I personally do it for a bit of a hobby, if people need the extra speed, then thats an added bonus, but I think with these C2D and Quad chips, it is criminal not to overclock them...but that is just my humble opinion

I wasn't questioning the general reasons to OC, only what the purpose is if the specific machine in question isn't ever pushed, but then I guess you'd overclock your machines even if you never planned on switching them on

Having thought about it though, I guess it will still get stuff done quicker (yeah, I know that's obvious) even if it never gets above 25%. I'd get my coat but it was destroyed when I jumped off a tall building in another thread.

I meant if your use cases never push the cpu above 50% load, say, you can get more benefit from modifying your usage patterns &/or software to push cpu load upto 100% than from a typical overclock. Of course doing both is a reasonable option.

hi, thanks for the fast reply, i did mean the P5KC, i change the FSB to 301 and it did change the FSBRAM ratio to 1:1, however regardless of what i put the fsb at as well as it syncing with the ram, it still wont budge from its default.

I now have the FSB set in bios at 350 with the ram at 700, which is right but in cpu-z it still says it is at 200 bus speed and 200 memory frequency.

anymore ideas would be great thanks in advance.

p.s. i have flashed the bios to the latest version

Right i see where your coming from interesting view . How you utilise your load is i think, though a different thing to overclocking.
Overclocking effectively increases the capacity of the component(s) beyond it's specified level.
You can argue if you just browse or use office etc., then you don't need to oc, if you play extreme games an oc might be useful, i can see that , but overclocking to a large degree is done:-
1) An intelectual exercise , maximising the potential of something, in the 50's 60's it was the car, now some of us keep our hands clean.
2) getting something for nothing
3) Competition to show prowess etc.,

Clunk me ol' mucker - i'm not out the woods - the problem has come back, i've got a single drive in my RAID 0 array dismounting whilst windows is running. It's perhaps less frequent but it's def doing it (i.e. when you reset the intel RAID BIOS lists but one drive).

I think i'm going to try changing the drives this w/e - legacy usb off/dvdr still not plugging in btw.
Still on the 311 bios.

Got pretty much the exact same setup as yours, same mobo and processor got 2GB Geil Ultra Low Latency RAM.

Having a bit of trouble though,

Whenever i raise the FSB over 380 it won't boot at all.

I'm running at 380 at the moment with idle temps of mid-high 30's idle and mid-high 50's on full load.

Was wondering if anyone knew of a reason why it might not like a higher FSB.

When you say it won't boot at all, that's a bit ambiguous, at least to me. If it won't even POST, then that's more than likely a RAM issue, whereas if you get a BSOD somewhere in the bootup process, it could be the RAM, the CPU, or both (or maybe even the mobo isn't getting enough juice, but at 380, I'm going to say that's a very unlikely possibility, since I never changed those settings on my P5K Deluxe). So, if you're not getting it to post, it's probably the RAM timings, as I would guess you're giving your RAM plenty of voltage, yes? If it's blue screening, then I'd give the RAM a bit more voltage, or the processor, or both. My system is clocked at 410 FSB, running 2.1V 4-4-4-10 DDR2 800 RAM that is a very poor overclocker (I'm actually surprised it got to 820). The RAM is rated at 1.9 to 2.0V. The Q6600 is getting 1.4375V currently, and is stable for the workload that I give it, which admittedly isn't very much. Idles at 32C, peaks at around 50C.

As I've not learned as much about RAM and how tolerant it is of voltage increases, I'm hesitant to give my RAM much more voltage, but might if I find information that can make me feel confidant I won't fry my memory.

Hi guys ,great tread you have going on here, well to the point I giess ... I have a Asus P5K-E and a Q6600 and i cant change the multiplier (it says unlocked BTW) and cant change the fsb. is it that my boars is not leting me do that, or the proc? I have tried everything you guys said in the tread but i can get this thing to work.im tempted to go buy another MB and run this one over with the car,any help will be greately apreciated.

The ram is rated to run at 800Mhz and the advised voltage is 2.1 which it is manually set to, I would of thought it would of been able to run at 800Mhz with the rated voltage..

When i say it doesn't boot either, it turns on but a blank screen appears, afer 30 seconds it'll reboot and do the same thing, the only way i can get past it is resetting the bios.

Any further help would be appreciated,

Ok, a blank screen with no text means the board is not posting (that's the term used when the BIOS initializes and begins the bootup process by identifying the basic hardware of your system and identifying a bootup device such as a CD, DVD, hard drive, etc.). I, too, had this problem and found it to be RAM related. If you are set to 1:1 timings, a 380 FSB should be posting your RAM at DDR2 760, which at the rated settings for your RAM (voltage and timings) should boot without a hitch (I know this because I've had my memory underclocked for months while running a E6600 at 1:1 timings which I could only get stable at around 3.5GHz and it ran MUCH hotter!).

So, my best guess is that you aren't setting your RAM at the 1:1 timings. At 380 FSB, you should be able to select DDR2 760. Give that a try and see if it boots. You can also give your RAM another .1V above the max rated voltage just to be sure it has enough power to run properly, although that really shouldn't be necessary (I always set mine .1V higher, personally, but again, it probably wasn't needed.). Also double check and make sure the different Enabled/Disabled options in Clunk's guide are set properly, as many of those can severely limit your ability to overclock. Finally, after you've done all of that, if it still doesn't post, then start dropping the FSB in 10MHz increments (370, 360, and so on), just to see if it will post at some lower overclocking. I really doubt that should be necessary, though, and I could certainly be missing something, as I'm still pretty much a novice at overclocking. Hopefully if I am, someone else will chime in and fill in the gaps in my analysis or correct any errors I might have made, but I do feel that these suggestions have a good chance of solving your OCing issues, and that 380 is definitely a reasonable overclock given your system.

I think maybe you've missed a step or two in Clunk's guide, as there are some settings (some of the ones you set to Manual) that will open up a lot of other options, including FSB settings and the multiplier. My guess is that you're looking at the wrong page in the BIOS. Go to Advanced>JumperFree Configuration>Ai Overclocking and set that to Manual. This should then allow you to set your FSB, etc.
