    Creative ALchemy (Audigy Edition)

Finally Creative have produced Vista drivers for the Audigy range of sound cards that give us back surround EAX for games lost from WinXP.

Unfortunately they are charging $9.99 for the licence activation key to activate the 18.7MB download. I have two rigs so it will cost me $19.98. Not sure if the key is transferable if the sound card is moved at this stage.

No sign of an a new apps suite to replace the Vista non compatible XP software that came with the card. I wonder how much they will want for that?

Can't make my mind up about this it's not particulary expensive but it does not give me a warm feeling for Creative.

    Link below.

    DO NOT BUY THIS.

Just spotted this on the Creative forums:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=1

The poster has chopped up the drivers with ALchemy for all Audigy and Live! cards. The thread has been there a few weeks, so Creative obviously dont care.

Ive not tried this on my Audigy 4 yet, but its worth checking out.

To be honest, they have been awful for years, and the X-Fi has been an overpriced, pain in the arse from day one, best to show companies like creative that you dont want their crap, and hit 'em where it hurts, dont buy their products.

I have a feeling my Audigy 4 will be my last Creative card. Theres actually some good alternatives out there now. Azuntechs x-fi card could be worth a look depending on the price tag.
