As mad-max said, wait!
We don't know what the requirements are at the moment, and if you wait until the game is out prices will have dropped/performance increased anyway.

When you have £2000 to spend you might aswell build it now!
You can't really go wrong with that sort of money. Mabee even get 8800 ultas in sli with enough left for a quad core. If you want to save money, just get 1 ultra and get the other when you can afford it. |

Dunno Andy3536, by the time crysis is out at the end of the year the new flagship Nvidia cards should be as well, so probably better to wait, especially as they're rumored to have 25% more stream processes amongst other things.

Wont be out of date for years and will run any game seamlessly. If you worried about PC stuff being out of date soon after you buy it no one would ever buy anything. |

Indeed it would take a lot to beat, just seems like an expensive move. Personally, I consider both sli and 8800 ultras not worth it in terms of price/performance, especially seeing as a gtx is so close to an ultra and can be OCd accordingly, but if money is no object then indeed it's the best.
I also agree with your point about 'waiting for the next new thing to come out before you buy' in the main, but here you are talking about spending £825+ on graphics cards.... a lot of money if a single card is released in october that gives similar performance. Could hurt

You could wait till the end of the earth and not build the best pc out there, but if you wait the components that you get at that time will be that much better to handle what is currently on offer where games are concerned. I read the other day that the developers think it will take at least 18 months before hardware will fully utilize the CryEngine 2. I would wait until it comes out because Crysis will be extremely demanding if you want to turn lots of eye candy on, even without the fancy stuff it will still be rather demanding I feel.

We dont know for definite when Crysis is out. Its not even in a closed beta yet. According to the Crysis team the game will scale for current top of the range PC as well as next gen equipment, how they can qualify that I dont know. So even waiting for the next gen seemingly wont make any diff anyway. It will run on Ultra settings on a Dual Core and an 8800GTX, it is also hinted it will take advantage of quad core and further.
I would buy now as you seem to have the loan arranged. The rest is simple really, there are enough threads on here to give an indication but you are looking at Quad 6600 decent cooler Tuniq or Thermaltake 120, 8800GTX, decent power supply Corsair or Enermax, 2 Gb ram, P35 motherboard Abit or Asus, and 24 inch monitor. That'll take care of the £1500 plus. The quad will happily overclock to 6850 speeds so no worries there for the time being. Or get the loan stick it a high interest 90 day account then draw it closer to Xmas when the P38 and possibly the Penryn chips are out.

Sons Rig: E6600 Abit AW9D Max, FSP Epsilon 700 watt, Coolermaster 831 case, 2 Gb Corsair 6400, LG 22 inch WS Monitor, 8800 GTX. |

And to be honest i would be suprised if a single gtx wouldn't be able to run the game full, even if it required a little tweak. If moonknight wanted to wait for the new graghics card though, theres no need to wait. Build the PC you want with a budget/old graghics card and update when released. |

I'm building a new rig too. Prolly gonna just buy just now. Quad core and a single 8800 GTX. Don't like buying cutting edge stuff till it's settled in a bit. If you don't mind waiting then there is a lot of stuff rumoured to be coming out for xmas/new year. But at the moment they are just rumours... Your call amigo.

The official release date at the moment is September the 14th. But I would take that with a pinch of salt.
All I am going to do is upgrade to an 8800GTX and then run the game at a suitable resoloution on my CRT. I think if you are going to build a Crysis PC it would be best to start with the screen you are going to play it on and then match your components to drive the intended screen resolution. However thats a difficult call until the game is out an the benchmarks are in. |
