    new system build problems

    Just setup new system

    Intel DP35DP
    Q6600
    Corsair HX520 psu
    X800GTO
    2 gb Crucial 667
    Liteon 1635 dvd rw
    WD sata II 160 gb

On boot the intel boot screen shows corruption, starts ok but then all image etc garbled system goes into reboot cycle, manage to get into bios and all seems ok, temps etc.Switch from ahci to ide and after reboot no garbled screen just post codes run across top of screen and then boot to xp and install ok, install chipset drivers and lan drivers and on reboot system hangs for a while and is very sluggish, shutdown hangs system completely. Update bios, clear cmos & try alternate psu still same. Return Dp35Dp and ask for it to be tested but shop gives replacement.

Setup system again on initial boot same garbled screen.
Enter bios ok and check temps/voltages all ok, drives show ok.
Reboot with bios update cd in place, screen garbled again but bios disk boots and updates bios ok.
Enter bios and setup sata for ahci and disable some things not needed, firewire, onboard audio.
Reboot with winxp disk in drive, still screen garbled but winxp boots and installs without errors.
Install chipset drivers and lan drivers and on reboot keyboard & mouse don't work, try different mouse still no go, seems all usb dead.Reboot and still the same.

All temperatures and voltages show ok, intel desktop utilities and bios hardware monitor.

Memory and drives psu etc all running ok in previous setup, d945pvs/p4 3g and have been for past few years.

    Really appreciate any help.

one of the above things may have gotten damaged in the transfer. Try with just one memory stick then switch to the other see if that solves anything. Otherwise i agree with mike it sounds either you havent plugged the extra power or seated the GFX properly or its busted.

you still got the old setup to do some fault finding?

X800 gto seated correctly & it doesn't use any extra power plugs cos it is low power card, board has locking clip for graphics card so you know it is seated right. I will be trying old cpu in board when i got the time, if that gives same garbled screen at least i can rule out q6600.
Really puzzles me, never had a problem with builds before and always used intel mobos cos they are stable, not into oc'ing.

Tried with just one memory stick, have 4 to choose from so tried all individually. Graphics card works ok, am using it now on old setup with 4 sticks of ram.

hmm. Could be an incompatability with the HDD? are you using the same monitor on both setups?

With your description of the problem it sounds like either RAM of GPU, but you say you've tried both :/

    Interesting.

Same monitor (Samsung syncmaster 753dfx crt)
The only difference between setups is dp35dp and q6600, everything else works ok on old setup.
When i did new build i only used the wd hard drive and left all other pci cards out, just put basics in to try it and on initial test only used graphics card and liteon dvdrw with 2 sticks of memory and then got the garbled boot screen.
On boot this is displayed for a few seconds -

Serial ATA AHCI Bios,Version UPSD src 04-20-2007
    Copyright (c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
**This version supports only Hard Disk and CDROM drives**

Please wait. This will take a few seconds.

    Controller Bus#00, Device#1F, Function#02:06 Ports,01 Devices
    Port-00 Hard disk, WDC WD1600JS-19MHB0
    Port-01: No Device Detected
    Port-02: No Device Detected
    Port-03: No Device Detected
    Port-04: No Device Detected
    Port-05: No Device Detected
    AHCI Bios INstalled

The screen then just scrambles up, words dissolve into pixels and blocks of colour, but continues with boot process and then displays "press any key to boot from cdrom".
I have managed to install xp but then after installing chipset drivers and lan drivers the whole system locks up, no keyboard/mouse, and have to power off. On restart check bios again and all temps etc are ok, but after booting into windows it is locked up again.
Processor thermal margin reads 34, MCH 66, ICH 54.
    Processor Vccp reads 1.160 volts - 1.300.

clear the cmos and dont bother with the ata ahci. Have a fiddle around with the various HDD bios settings it sounds like u have something configured wrong

I did do the cmos when i had first board and nothing changed.
HDD settings are autodetected and nothing was out of order there.

With 1st board i had to install in ide mode because the board would not boot at all in ahci or raid just got the garbled screen and reboot ad infinitum.
After xp installed in ide mode the whole system was slower than my present p4 and kept locking up on boot and shutdown.
The intel bios are straightforward, most settings are already optimum. I have been through a few intel boards and never hit a problem like this, that's why i went with this board, after reading all the reviews of asus, abit, gigabyte and then the various problems with double booting etc i just thought this was best bet. All reviews i've read about this board say it is stable.
Ahci is my preferred way for the drives and works well with existing board.
I shall just have to shell out for some other ram to try and if that makes no difference i'll put the p4 in and see what happens and then i am out of options.
Anyway thanks for all the input, i'm off down the pub to drown my sorrows.

    Re: new system build problems

Setup this board again after clear cmos, 1 stick of ram, graphics card, dvdrw drive.
Bootup to same garbled screen, put memtest cd in and reboot, run memtest for 5 hours with no errors or lockups.
That sorta tells me the memory is ok and the cpu must be ok or memtest would have crashed, unless my logic is wrong here.
I'm done with this board and any suggestions for p35 board would be appreciated

I still have a really strong suspician that its something to do with your bios settings. Can you take a photo of the bios settings menu in the bios please? also the intelligent motherboard thingy (press CTRL + F1 b4 entering this as it give u full options)

Abit P35E is good value if you don't want to OC.

Ctrl+F1 is for gigabyte boards i think, as stated this is intel dp35dp and bios is limited with most settings default is good. If you really want i can start up the intel intergrator toolkit and then list all the settings in the latest bios.
