hard disk knackered Ok the pc is fairly old and the hard disk is starting to give me stick. Several programs aren't working, scan disk and defrag won't work either. I think that it sounds like it's knacked to me, unless anyone knows anything that might be causeing it? If needs a must i'll upgrade the hard disk, will only wanting something like a 40Gb and roughly £40-50?! Any recommendations? Also if i get a new HD, i'll be putting XP pro of it, will this create a massive mess with drives because the pc's fairly old(but it's still comfortably above minimum requirements) Any help much appreciated slackstudent

go download either the IBM/Maxtor drive fitness tool, and see whether your harddrive is knackered, or it if its just full of crap , i think £40-£50 will get you a 60-80gb drive depending on the make and spec aswell... how old is the pc? cos if its amazinly old it might not be able to take above a 37gb drive (well thats kinda pentium1 oldness)mark edit : couple of links ![]() IBM drive fitness test Maxtor equivalent

Re: hard disk knackered 750Gb Samsung F1 - £60 It's the fastest drive out on the market today, might be worth the stretch ![]() £40-£50 will get 250 - 500Gb easy, and bigger drives have bigger caches too which make them faster!
