| Samsung SH-S223F DVD Drive wont play DVDs Hello, I have recently built a new computer, including the above DVD drive. Up until recently I have only really tested that the DVD player was working by putting a DVD in and watching it for a couple of minutes. This seemed to work fine. However, yesterday we wanted to watch a whole DVD. However, a couple of minutes into the film it froze up and windows wouldn't respond until I took the DVD out. Now, the DVD player won't play any DVDs, when I put one in it asks to autoplay, but when I try to play the DVD it speeds up momentarily then pauses, then speeds up momentarily, then pauses etc. on a cycle. I have tried playing the DVDS in WinDVD, VLC and Windows Media with the same results, and both in XP and Vista. It also wont read DVDs which have data on them e.g. Vista installation disk. The drive seems to read CDs e.g. data disks (CD) install fine, and so do audio cds. I have plugged my old IDE DVD ROM (read only) in and this works fine, so it is definately an issue with the Samsung drive only. Any suggestions?? |

| Re: Samsung SH-S223F DVD Drive wont play DVDs My Samsung DVD drive has just died as well (only 2 weeks old...) Pretty sure it's the SH-S223F as well. Does the same thing as yours: spins up, makes a 'seek' sort of noise, then does nothing... spins up, makes a 'seek' sort of noise, then does nothing.... repeat ad infinitum ![]() When I go into 'My Computer' and click on the DVD icon, it comes up with 'please insert a disc...' and the drive ejects the DVD/disc... does this happen with yours? Is this drive buggered? Or is it something I can fix? I've checked the SATA and power leads, they're fine... cheers |

| Re: Samsung SH-S223F DVD Drive wont play DVDs That's exactly what I was thinking as well... I'll just send it back to Scan for a new one (just need to wait for my backup drive to arrive, ironically another Samsung... hopefully this one works fine!) cheers |

Very very occasionally it will get a bit further and attempt to open the disk or dvd but then fail. Also, it sometimes makes really funny noises. Looks as though Scan may have received a faulty batch, I ordered mine on the 2nd of July, at a similar time to you. I have been advised to contact the returns people at scan via the website, which I have done and am waiting back for a response. |
