    Sil5723 - Transparent Hardware RAID?

Just setting up a new PC with an ASUS P5Q Pro, which has a Sil5723 RAID chip. Took me a while to figure out how to use it... a few ASUSisms....

    "Drive Xpert Technology" = RAID
    "Super Speed" = RAID0
    "EZ Backup" = RAID1

Anyway... I chuck the Windows XP x64 disc in... oops dont have RAID drivers ready for it... Then to my amazement, windows detects the two hard drives as a single disc, unlike any of my previous RAID chips (ICH9R, nForce 3, nForce 4, HighPoint 2320), which would all show up as separate discs if I didn't press F6 and give it the drivers.

What's going on here, surely the Windows disc can't have drivers for it as it's too new?

there is a chance it could be using legacy silicon image drivers that are on the xp64 disc. i think silicon image have used a unified driver for a long time that would most likely mean that i could see the raid setup howaver you may want to load the latest drivers from the silicon image web site just to make sure. the drivers in xp64 are likely to be at least 3 years old

Doesn't appear to be using any Silicon drivers... I think it's using this one at the moment:

The ICH10 has 6 ports which would account for the rest... both SATA ports on the Silicon chip are being used for the "RAID0" array... "DriveXpert HDD0".

Manufacturer for the "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" is "(Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)".
