AMD Phenom II X4 965 C3 stepping first review!!

Power consumption at both idle and load are noticeably lower:

    http://www.lostcircuits.com/mambo//i...id=68&Itemid=1

4GHZ was also reached with some mild tweaking it seems using air cooling.

I think the article was pulled because it broke the NDA:

    http://www.lostcircuits.com/forum/vi...php?f=3&t=2720

To sum the article up idle power consumption dropped by a third and load power consumption decreased bya round 10 watts.

No it can't. It's still only two channels, but it can cope with 4 banks at 1333 now.

    According to the firingsquad review:

“Heavy” load support for DDR3-1333: With proper BIOS implementation, memory controller will now support up to 4x DDR3 DIMMs at 1333MHz

    That's 4 banks/sticks, not channels.

Some reviews like toms and techreport mention only savings of 9-10 watts on load, yet others like bit-tech show around 30-40 watts difference. :/ Not very consistent!

Re: AMD Phenom II X4 965 C3 stepping first review!!

It seems that a C3 stepping of the X4 945 is also out:

    http://en.inpai.com.cn/doc/enshowcont.asp?id=7358

This is already a 95W processor so hopefully there will be some more idle and peak power consumption savings.

If you can post a CPU-Z screenshot it would be good. How are the temps like and what are the voltages you used?? Stock cooler or aftermarket cooler??

temps are 28deg idle in a warmish room, 50deg load (see speedfan), voltage is 1.46 and the cooler is a corsair H50

Re: AMD Phenom II X4 965 C3 stepping first review!!

just as a footnote, this is obviously the quick and dirty way to do it, ill be fiddleing with the fsb probably tomorrow as it makes quite a difference to the overall speed. im hopeful of getting a stable 4.06-4.08 kind of area without any more voltage as well, will have to see

clever overclocking is now underway. drop the cpu in mhz, bump the NB and HT and then creep it back up using fsb. stable and faster than last night - RAM has been fiddled too, mucho bettero

actually managed to get down to 1.45v too, havent tried lower but it may go a bit
