    Question Is this memory compatible?

ebuyer have a pretty nice deal on Cas6 ddr3 ram at the moment. It's rated at 1.8v so I know this won't work with intel, what about a phenomII? Is that too high?

    Cheers

AFAIK,higher voltage DDR3 RAM should work fine with a Phenom II as the lower voltage stuff was more for the socket 1156 processors - don't quote me on it though!

From what I've been told 1.8-1.9v DDR3 stuff works fine on AM3

Looks like a decent deal then? Better performance than cas9 1600MHz?

I just saw this low latency 1600MHZ RAM which is very good for the money:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?GSK-4G1675

There is also Quidco cashback from Noavtech!!

My advice would be to run the 1600MHZ RAM using as low latencies as possible. OTH,the 1333MHZ RAM you specced is also quite low latency so I am uncertain whether it would be possible to push 1600MHZ any lower.

Yeah, the access time difference is minimal, both at around 4.3 - 4.5 ns if my calculations are correct .
    Acquaint me with quidco?

I would probably would get the G.Skill RAM although I would check these two threads first though:

    Re: Is this memory compatible?

I can make too much sense. Some saying gskill won't work with amd at 1600mhz and some saying it works for them. OCZ seems a better bet? But then I have to pay so much more .
Maybe the cas6 is worth it at that price.

Basically the G.Skill RAM won't work with very low latencies at 1600MHZ with a Phenom II. OTH, since you will be running it at 1333MHZ using lower latencies anyway I do not see this as an issue TBH. Also 1600MHZ DDR3 will have a higher resale value than 1333MHZ DDR3 too if you intend to upgrade the setup at some point.

    Re: Is this memory compatible?

For DDR3 low latency would be around Cas 5,6 or 7 IMHO. TBH,you will have to muck around with the timings and see what you can get.

I'm no expert with all that stuff, when i put a module in or a kit what speeds do they run at? and the stated speeds are maximums they can operate at or stock?

    Re: Is this memory compatible?

When I noticed Novatech were offering this 7-8-7-24 kit at the same price at the 9-9-9-24 kit, I went ahead and bought it - it looks very good value to me. Check the reviews on Newegg - seems to indicate you may need to manually set your timings, but that surely shouldn't be too much of a problem...

Stated speeds are maximums AFAIK. What it'll initially run at is anyone's guess - you might have to adjust them straight away.
