Gigabyte 5870 + Dual Screen setup is driving me nuts!!

Basically - the second screen WILL NOT come on no matter what I do..

Windows picks it up, all the setup seems fine but the god damn thing won't go out of sleep mode.

The only way to make it work is it use VGA instead of DVI cable...

Got single & dual link DVI-D cables and no joy with both of them.

Obviously both screens work perfectly fine one at time.

    HELP?

have you tried using 2 single link dvi cables?

as with my 5850 i tried using 2 dual link dvi cables and the display port would not work for some reason but if i used 2 single link dvi cables instead the display port would work so got all 3 working.

i think if you use a dual link dvi and a single link the gfx card thinks its got 3 monitors plugged in

    Ok I have tried:

    Single Link to Single Link
    Dual Link to Dual Link
    Single Link to Dual Link
    Dual Link to Single Link

All of them combination produce no signal on the second screen...

    I don't understand this really.

Each time I swap the cable monitor is being picked up in Windows just fine - expect I get 'No signal' :O

    Any other ideas?

have you got a hdmi to dvi cable to try that? tho you should be able to use both dvi or dvi and hdmi for two monitors.

also if the gfx card can see the second monitor try unplugging the dvi cable at the back of the gfx card and plugging it back in and see if that will wake it up.

OK, VGA on the monitor side and DVI on the other end works fine [usual VGA and the VGA > DVI adapter]

HDMI on the monitor to HDMI on the 5870 works as well. [native HDMI to native HDMI, no adapters]

So the only combination left is:

HDMI on monitor to DVI on the card for which I haven't got the cable. [again straight cable with no adapters]

I'm about to restart and see if it will POST from both DVI connectors.

Re: Gigabyte 5870 + Dual Screen setup is driving me nuts!!

Ok, bottom DVI port works no matter what is plugged into it.

Top one only works with if VGA to VGA>DVI [adapter] cable is used.

My PC POST as normal but nothing is displayed on the screen if connected to top DVI, bottom on works fine.

How can DVI only be not working for DVI and working if VGA to DVI adapter is used?

    This is MEGA strange...

RMA time, DVI slot is deffo busted.

Looks like somehow the pins responsible to digital output are messed up as it works using the adapter to VGA.
