Noisy PSU Two days ago, I built a computer, and ever since the PSU has been annoying me because of the noise it makes . Could this be because I put the PSU in upside-down? I did this because the plugs on the PSU wouldn't properly fit through the hole in the case .So.... 1) Could the noise be because it was installed upside-down, or is it just a noisy PSU? 2) Where can I find a pretty cheap, but also very quite PSU - preferably with an output socket for the monitor (incase I ever want to change)? The PSU I used was this one: WinPower - 550 Alumiunm Dual Fans Thanks Last edited by ajbrun; 04-06-2004 at 11:12 AM..

oh - Well I'm pretty sure it's the PSU and not the CPU fan - it's noisier when I put my ear to it. It isn't really a ratelling sound - just an overly loud hum. It's just louder than my old computer with I wasn't expecting.

You have to try running at out-of-the-box, if it still is noisy, then to noisy PSU, you can add up your case with old socks, placed dampers around the PSU, but you may have to replace the fans if it is to noisy of

| HEXUS webmaster | Well it depends - if it's noisy because something isn't right then you're better off sending it back than messing with it. Replacing PSU fans isn't recommended for two reasons: 1. You're working inside a PSU. 2. You've got the ensure you get enough airflow. |

Threshold of hearing - 0 dB Rustling leaves - 20 dB Quiet whisper (3 feet) - 30 dB Well my PSU doesn't seem like leaves rustling, or even a quiet whisper - it seems louder than both. I'll probably live with it for a while, and if it gets any worse, I'll send it back or just replace it myself.
