Warrenty void stickers
Whats the point of having warrenty void stickers on optical drives? Whenever i install one in a case it rips it so whooosh goes the warrenty. Had 3 optical drives fail on me in about 3 months and had to replace each out of my own pocket as the company says ive opened the drive.

I must admit, with optical drives I always carefully remove the warranty sticker using a stanley knife blade, placing it on the back of the drive then put it back if the drive ever goes 'aot'

What drives you been using and where have you purchased them from?
Sounds like bad luck losing 3 drives in 3 months :- commiserations. Did you get any luck with RMA's? Usually "they" put them over screws and other such fanciful devices for opening unknown secrets. Maybe a new standard is required for screws and their warranty void stickers. I vote for socket X : gauranteed to screw you up. Sorry |

They have been artec drives and im currently in contact with the company involved so wont name and shame....yet.
They stick them on a corner of the drive so when you slide the drive in it rubs agaisnt the side of the case and rips if off. |

I know exactly what you mean mate. I used to have the same problem.
btw : Artec drives have one of the highest failure rates. Why dont you stick to lite-on ? |

mmm my 52x litey combo is the quietest and best drive ive ever had. It's also the only drive ive ever had that seems to act 'sensibly' - ie when playing a movie it will actually spin the disk nice and quietly, when transferring the data its spins its bollox off
