| Restarting Problem. My mates PC will reboot(or crash) when he's playing games (sometimes when on photoshop). At first i thought it might be a gfx card or a memory problem. Did a memory test and it came out perfect. Changed a gfx card on it and the same. I had a look at the event viewer and this was the error shown : Event Type: Error Event Source: ACPI Event Category: None Event ID: 4 Date: 24/08/2004 Time: 15:17:19 User: N/A Description: AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Data: 0000: 00 00 00 00 04 00 52 00 ......R. 0008: 00 00 00 00 04 00 05 c0 .......À 0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ 0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ 0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........ i looked up the description and a lot of people get the same problem with different mobos. Some seem to resolve the problem with BIOS updates. The PC by the way (i think..) : iwill KK266-R v1.2 mobo Amd Athlon XP ~ 1.5Ghz 512mb Ram Radeon 9000 Pro Ive updated the Bios to the latest one from the iwill site but still the same problem. Ive contacted the Tech team at iwill but god knows how long they'll take to reply so thought bout asking you lot I checked the mobo at iwill and it says "Supports CPU Speed From 600 MHz up to 1.2GHz". As the athlon is at 1.5 (not clocked - i dnt think) could this effect it? Any other suggestions? cheers again Coded |

Another thing todo would be either load up Motherboard Monitor 5 or check the voltages of your PSU in the BIOS, I used to have a problem like what you describe (didn't have an error message though) and the comp would reset as the PSU wasn't providing enough juice under load. Thats a good thing to check first, try testing some of his components in another comp and try running his rig on a different power supply, you never know, you just gotta see what happens. Hope that helps |
