Nvidia And Intel Sign Broad Cross-license And Chipset License Agreements

LONDON — NOVEMBER 19TH, 2004 — NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, today announced that the companies have signed a broad, multi-year patent cross-license agreement spanning multiple product lines and product generations. Additionally, the companies signed a multi-year chipset agreement for NVIDIA to license Intel’s front-side bus technology. This will enable NVIDIA to deliver the NVIDIA nForce™ platform technology on Intel-based systems.

“Today’s agreements are significant for both companies and, more importantly, represent a win for our mutual customers who now have more choices for enhancing the PC experience,” said Louis Burns, Intel vice president and general manager, Desktop Products Group.

“NVIDIA and Intel are working together to enhance the end-user computing experience,” added Jen-Hsun Huang, president and chief executive officer of NVIDIA. “NVIDIA’s product portfolio offers exciting technology options to Intel customers, including the NVIDIA nForce platform and the PCI Express-based SLI graphics technology solution.”

now all they have to do is make thier 64bit chips work and make them backward compatible to 32bit apps, and they might resume some kind of competitivness in the market!

Slap me if im wrong, but this is business influenced isnt it? I thought the Gamers market would not even look at intel due to the nForce and 64bit-ness of AMD based systems? as i say slap me if im wrong

Yes but think about it - Intel chipsets are expensive.

NVIDIA have SLI - and Intel want some of this Love

Also NVIDIA re good at workstation stuff.

All I know is it changes the way we look at other Intel chipsets

very interesting news indeed. Nice one Nvidia. Intel usually guard their bios/mb licence area. Remember the spats with SIS intel chipsets anyone?....

    sounds very interesting indeed

The MD of Via is a born again Christian. I doubt he approves of that sort of nonsense.
