| afaik 2.1 speakers just use the same (2 channel) connection, or at least every set I've seen does. er so to answer your question; yes it would work I guess We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices? |

| Most 2.1 speakers will just use a low frequency band-pass filter for the subwoofer. There isn't really a subwoofer channel or a 2.1 signal so your regular stereo singal will work fine. You'll only get extra information (i.e. channels) when you start getting into Dolby Digital 5.1 and THX audio signals. In other words, the audio source (PC game, DVD, etc.) must be encoded with that extra channel information in order for your expensive home theatre speaker system to actually drive all the channels properly. Some systems fake the extra channels from a normal stereo signal giving you pseudo 5.1 - but it's not the real thing unless your audio source has that extra information. If you're listening to music then that is usually only encoded with two channels (for CD music, DVD's may have 5.1 sound). |
