Anyone know who makes an external USB caddy/enclosure for SATA disks???
I've got a spare 80Gb Samsung SATA disk that I want to make 'portable' but can't find an enclosure that will take a SATA drive! Nearest thing I've found is an IcyBox but that has a SATA connector not USB so you need a SATA backplane'd PC... Anyone know what/where?!! |

I've also been looking for a SATA drive enclosure for ages and all I can find is one that connects to the PC via external SATA.
I think I'll email IcyBox and ask if they plan on doing it.. after all if there's market demand then they'll eventually release one. |

As far as I can tell, the Icy Box range only support SATA drives with a SATA interface to the PC.
What I'm looking for is an external enclosure for a SATA drive but with a Firewire or USB2 interface to the PC. |

It was a doddle to get up and running, it works(!) and is pretty quiet too. |

With like 10 quids more you could get ANOTHER 80GIG and a IDE->USB2 enclosure.

The point is that I have a spare SATA lyring around that is exactly the same size as my main HDD and I want to use for backup. The product that I ended up buying is one of very few SATA enclosures that allow you to connect to your PC via USB 2.0. |

Stardom is what you need
In terms of the Icy Box the only solution for SATA HDDs is SATA to SATA. The reason why Icy Box have not introduced a SATA to USB or to Firewire is because to get the maximum transfer rate for SATA it has to go from SATA to SATA otheriwse there is no point buying or owing a SATA HDD.
In saying that Stardom do offer a solution that will take SATA HDDs and allow users to connect via USB or firewire. The model is U6-1. For further information please visit the following link. I hope this helps. http://www.nanopoint.co.uk/products....rdereau&id=239 |
