MSI S260 Memory Upgrade Advice Well, after all my debating I finally bought an MSI S260, I wasn't super pleased with the price, however the updated specs did make it easier to part with the cash. The mega book still came with 512 of ram, which after the intel onboard graphics takes of its 128 meg doesn't actually leave that much to play with. A quick stop at crucial.com and less than 24 hours later (how good is cruical.com !!!!!) my 2 gig or ram arrived on my door step. Now reading the MSI manuals they explain that the RAM/CPU/Harddisk are under the keyboard....and thats as far as it goes. No handy pannels like the thinkpad/dell for easy access to the ram, it looks like the full keyboard has to come off. Now as MSI have kindley given NO information on how to do this, or to be honest ANY information about it, I'd appriciate if anyone with some experience of the MSI notebooks could offer some tips, or any words of warning about what not to do. thanks It is Inevitable.....

here are the instructions that a kind soul shared with me remove ac power and battery. 1. six screws or so on the bottom underneath the palmrest area, unscrew and remove. 2. remove memory card and pcmcia inserts. 3. grab palmrest just below the space bar and pull up and back gently, the palmrest should pop up. the touchpad has a cable connector, try to leave it in place and just flip the palmrest back. 4. slide the keyboard back and up to remove - also has a cable connector that you could leave in place. otherwise, gently pull up on the connector holder (will slide up slightly) to remove the cable. 5. the RAM slot is just under a foil cover on most of those models, you should be able to add ram there. some of the older versions, you may have to remove the metal shield that covers the ram/cpu, just depends. if so, it's pretty obvious where the screws are. if necessary, there may also be one more screw on the bottom of the laptop that would have to be removed to remove the metal shield. 6. reinstall the keyboard cable and test with ac power before putting it all back together. make sure you can get into the bios and that the keyboard input is recognized before reassembly. pictures to follow It is Inevitable.....

I found these instructions most helpful. I just did the upgrade myself and have written it up and posted photos but since I had to register here to be able to write this, I can't post a URL yet because I don't have enough points. So you can find me a bitterjug dot com and search for "ram upgrade" to find the article. The photos are similarly tagged on Flickr.
