Question Whats accessing my hard disk up?

i have a shuttle xpc which i use as a pvr and am trying to keep as quiet as possible. about the only noisy thing is the spinpoint hard disk. i have set the disk to idle after a minute or so as its not needed 99% of the time. however every 30 mins something happens that causes the hard disk to spin up again.

question is, how can i find out what is causing this to happen? is there any way of seeing which threads/processes/services are accessing the disk?

    cheers

    shaun

can I ask what you Shuttle XPC is and what you've got in it?

I have one myself and I'm trying to get it quieter, but I have a dodgy fan. It's only a few months old too.
