My PC cannot see my eSATA external Hard Drive
Hi guys
Recently I got a Vantec USB 2.0/eSATA External 3.5 " Hard Drive Enclosure (comes with a SATA to eSATA Bracket). I installed a Western Digital 160GB SATA Hard Drive into this enclosure and it works fine with USB 2.0 connection. But the eSATA connection is not very fast. So I end up getting a PCI-Express to SATAII eSATA One Port Controller card from ebay. (Info of the card is at http://www.jmicron.com/JMB360.html) I got the card yesterday & installed the card to my PCI-Express slot & load the driver from supplied CD. After re-boot my PC, the driver was confirmed installed properly. But when I connect my eSATA cable from my Vantec Hard Drive Enclosure to the eSATA port at the back of the controller card on my PC and then turn on my hard drive in my Enclosure. But the drive was not detected or recognized by my Windows XP system. May I know do I need to connect a SATA cable from my card to my motherboard SATA port ? Please kindly advise. |

I was going to suggest switching on the drive before the PC, but i see the card supports Hot Plugging.
Have a look in: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management See if the drive is being recognised by windows but for some reason it might not be assigning it a drive letter. |

Sometimes worth going into Device Manager and doing "Scan for hardware changes" a couple of times after you have effectively done a hot-plug.
