Windows Problems

Hey guys,
after fitting all my new stuff yesterday, and transfering my old hard drives over, i was met with a nasty problem. Damn Windows XP gives me the BSOD every time i try to startup windows, in both normal, and safemode. I am quite sure there is nothing wrong with any of the hardware. I have tried transfering my windows disk back to the old computer, and it works fine. I have also tried removing all the old system drivers like the IDE hannel controllers etc for my old motherboard, then moved it back into the new machine, but no luck.

the BSOD error i get is:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF894D640,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I dont know what it means ? I have tride using a single stick of RAM, unplugged my second hard drive. I only have the graphics card in, no PCI cards. I have also run 'knoppix' onit, its a version of Linux you can boot stragiht from the CD, no need to install it, and it runs fine. Any ideas ? I really don't want to have to reinstall widows, i just got it all nice . Its XP PRo, not SP1, by the way.

Any ideas ?

Reinstall - always reinstall with new hardware ... unfortunately there isn't any getting around this (without causing yourself more time/headaches).

I will try anything ! please im desperate. But come on, there must be something i can do ? I am even willing to try installing windows on a different hard drive then copying part of i onto the old hard drive. IS there anyway something like this could work ?
oh and, one more thing, this isn't a strictly offical copy of XP, so uh, the limit on changing hard ware thing doesn't matter

If you have added a new mobo you are definatly going to have to reinstall windows

You could reinstall windows on another drive... just don't come moaning back saying that all you games etc wont work from the old drive because they don't have their registry entrys.....

Quite simply, a re-installation is going to be the easiest thing for you here.... if you want to save data from the old disk install windows on that other drive and copy over what you can then format the old one...

This is just what I would do if there was some important things on the older drive...
If there wasn't important things, I would just go ahead with the format/re-installation as it will be the easiest way to get your new kit up and running....

lol is it just now with XP it requires a reinstall if you change the mobo ? Or just like veryone always says 'new hardware = new windows'
Its just you have no idea how many programs i have installed, its hours and hours worth of sitting at a percentage screen :-/

Im not worried about losing data, thats no problem, i always keep windows on 6, or 7 gig partition, so its easy to just reformat and reinstall. Its just as i said above . Even if i backed up the registry and then reinput the registry entries ........... um lol, that would probably take longer , but ITS ANNOYING ! I hate XP AGAIN !

off that subject a bit now , has anyone had any experience with corsair value select ? Because occasionaly whn i power ont eh computer the MSI LED indicators tell me the RAM has been fitted incorrectly, or is damaged :-/ im sure it fitte corretly, tried resitting. Its not just Corsair RAM which doesn't meet there high specs so they sell it cheap is it ?

Its just a known fact... If you have one of the major components suchas a motherboard you will simply have to reinstall your OS!! its not just wondows being picky with you... It's just the way the operating system is installed!!

Think of it as motherboard drivers that can only be changed in the original setup

Or even better format - I always backup everything and format for a mobo upgrade.
People here can help you out with registry entries for your games if you can't be bothered reinstalling.

Yes it's a bummer when you've got a lot of apps that need to be installed, however, look on the bright side - they will install quicker and you probably don't need to install them all in one go ... you are better off installing as and when you need them.

The other tip is - store applications on the HDD instead of using a CD-ROM or several CD's as it's much quicker installing like this and you don't have to go to the trouble of ferreting around for installation disks.

One final tip: some apps and almost all games don't need to be installed if you have already installed them on another OS, just move the folder to a data partition that won't be formatted and it will be there forever more you might have to back up a reg file (in the case of UT2003 etc...) but just leave this in the same folder as the game and installing on your new OS is as easy as double-clicking the .reg file.

It wasn't a necessity to reinstall windows with older vserions, in the past i have just taken a system disk and stuck it in a different computer and it worked fine.
Thanks for the tips Blacksheep, but i do know what im doing , i have alot of my games disk stored as CD images, and i run all my programs from a seperate hard drive, in a partition of their own

So no one ever been mean enough to buy Corsair select before ?

aha !! I found a solution !! You dont need to reinstall windows. You just stick the CD in, go to install as normal, then choose repair windos installation, so instead of reinstalling it, it just replaces and, reinstalls, the windows system files which need to be changed, i still got all my users and programs installed

where theres desperation, theres a way! yay!

I would prolly go for a full format/reinstall and pop over to a friends house with his 100mbit ja.net connection to get all the updates etc

my problems arent over yet though about 50% to 60% of the time i reboot, it either just hangs at a blank screen and doesn't turn off, then when i reset it does a semi-long beep, for about a second, every 4 seconds. It doesn't always do this is i turn if off by holding the power for 10 secs. Or it will just go straight to the beeps before it turns off, and hangs at a black screen.

I can t find any guide to what the beeps mean, but as i said before, the LED's that MSI have on the back panel, indicate that the RAM is damaged or not fitted correctly ? :-/ any ideas ?
