945 chipset mobos and C2D overclocking

Has anyone any experience with 945 chipset based mobos and over clocking C2Ds on them?

From reading reviews it seems when over clocking that they set it to DDR667 (333 MHz) using a divider and not 1:1. I have seen a few motherboards which quote they take DDR667 but is that only through dividers? do none exist which run it 1:1? is it an inherent property of the 945 chipset?

I was hoping that with an E4300 and a cheapish 945 mobo it would be possible to get it near to 3 GHz.

I dont think you will get very good results with the 945 chipset, the 965 is a proven overclocker and if you are on a tight budget something like the gigabyte S3 would overclock great and is pretty cheap (£67 from scan).

Flewis, to be honest I have actually already decided based on your advice and others to get a 965 mobo. Either the S3 or the Biostar Tforce.

But I was curious as to what is possible with 945s and how they are restricted. That way if a mate on a tight budget is after something I can make something semi decent.

Some of the 945 boards do overclock a certain amount but I doubt you would ever reach 3GHz on a 4300.

Does that mean 945 boards cannot run DDR667 1:1 by design?
and all those quoting DDR667 just means the divider is available?
