    They make all the difference in the world IMO.. but perhaps you're just not using them correctly. Garlic can be quite delicate, mushrooms release a liquid that tastes like expensive oil but has virtually no fat, spices can do anything from ruin a dish to highlighting the perfect flavours.

    I've got a simple dish that uses all the things you want to avoid, just for you to try and get over this dislike

    You need two portobello mushrooms (they're the big flat ones) per person depending on size, one clove of garlic, some oregano (optional) and fresh buffalo mozzerella (sainsburys basic stuff is fine).

    -Preheat a baking tray with a drizzle of oil in the oven at 180C
    -Chop the stalks off the mushrooms
    -Cut the garlic clove in half - rub the cut surface around the outside of the mushrooms, then chop the halves into slithers and push into the gills of the mushrooms
    -Sprinkle oregano sparingly onto the gills of the mushrooms
    -Cut 1/2 cm thick slice of mozzerella, ideally just less than the size of the mushroom cup and place ontop of the mushroom (gills upturned)
    -Bake for 20 mins.

    You end up with sort of a mini pizza which has a wonderful tasting base which almost melts in your mouth. If you don't like garlic and mushrooms after that you need your tastebuds examining

    Its only some spices I dont like, some are nice as is pepper and onoin its just garlic for its foul smell and after taste. The microwave pilu rice has another thing other in it that I dont like too much....

    But I think I will ignore your suggestion kalniel.. next you will be telling me how to make sprouts taste nice, but I know that to be IMPOSSIBLE!! :)

    If you're of the "plain meal" brigade, you're screwed when it comes to healthy eating!

    Healthy meals have two main options, either a) spicy to hide the taste or b) taste like vegatables!

    If you are not that sure on making rice, invest in a cheap rice cooker from amazon.co.uk and just use the ratio 1 cup of rice : 1 1/2 water and it will always come out right

    Steamed vegetables and grilled chicken breasts are easy to do if you want healthy meals

    I agree, a rice cooker is the way to go for an easy life and for nicer taste.
