How to cook steak
Being a fan of Steak, i have decided to cook myself one tonight (having NEVER touched a raw steak before) What i am after is the style of steak you get at F&B/Boss Hogs/Some pubs, i belive they use rump steak Sooo... has anyone ever cooked one before? If so, how do i do it!

well.....I know but Its a secret
![]() But BLACK PEPPER ground onto it first is a start ![]() then, a really really hot grill....really hot. If ya feeling serious, get a frying pan too, drizzle of olive oil, get it hot, put the steak in and "seal it" for 1 minute, then turn it, and do same other side... then put it under that grill and do it how ya like it. Thats it.... secret's out

Tip for rare/medium/well done steaks.
This involves gauging the softness. With your left hand, touch the tips of your forefinger and thumb together and squeeze. Now, see the fleshy bit just at the bottom of your thumb, press it with your other hands fingertip. Then put second finger to thumb and squeeze, feel how the 'fleshy bit' gets firmer? Then again with the third finger. Sooo, this is how you can tell steak. First finger is the consistancy of rare, second finger medium, and third finger well done. |

Firstly, get yourself some decent meat. Most supermarket meat is very poor quality, but Sainsbury's do a 'Taste the Difference' 21 day old slab of cow which is pretty decent.

lol - I'd agree. but it always tastes better off the bbq! alternatively - if it's snowing outside - then cook on a cast iron griddle. reversible ones are great, but often too much of a hassle. mine has a detachable handle which makes it easier when you've got a busy stove.
just got to remember to treat them every couple of months to keep them in good condition. |

I usually buy medallions of beef from the meat counter in Sainsbury's, nicer and cheaper than anything they sell on the shelf (apart from that 21 day old lump in a bag which is lovely but expensive)
I tried for years to get steak right, what I do now is get the pan really hot, sear the outside, then turn the heat down and cook, flipping it over exactly once every 60 secs until it 'feels' right. Seems to work for me! |

Nah... Fillet Steak... Almost charred on the outside and pink the rest of the way through. That's the way. Nice stuff from Waitrose. Or failing that Sirloin...
