Tuna in Pitta Bread - A 5-minute healthy meal
Here's something that I prepare regularly after sampling it in Barbados a few weeks ago. It's tuna in pitta bread and is relatively healthy apart from the french fries. However, it is very quick and simple to prepare and all the ingredients are readily available from most grocery stores.
You'll need the following: - Microwaveable French Fries (1 portion) - Prepared side salad (I use the ready-made Mediterranean salad from Sainsburys) - Tuna mixed with a dressing of your choice - the prepared John West Tuna with Black Pepper and Lime is ideal - A couple of pitta bread pouches To prepare the meal (takes around 5 minutes): - Heat the pitta bread pouches under a medium grill for a minute or two on each side, remembering to sprinkle a little water on them first to stop them from drying out. - Whilst the pitta bread is warming up you can prepare the tuna (eg. with mayonnaise if required). - As soon as the pitta bread is warmed up, start to microwave the portion of French Fries - Whilst the French Fries are in the microwave, stuff the pitta bread pouches with a generous helping of tuna and place on a serving plate, together with the salad. Apply a salad dressing for a less healthy but more tasty option if desired. - The French Fries should be ready in a little over 2 minutes. Place on the serving plate and your meal is ready. Eat and enjoy! |

i absolutly love tuna. but was has shocked me since being at uni is how f****cking expensive that stuff is, were talking 70 p plus per small tin. U can get Heinz beans and pork sausages for less than that. Why so expensive for such a large animals. Ur looking about 400+ cans of tuna for one fish!!! bit off topic but im intreaged. Taz that meal sounds like a winner tbh, may have to try it when tuna prices go down
. Need to get rid of the sharks to increase tuna first

There's not much that doesn't go well in a pitta TBH, my favourite used to be a generous serving of mince fried up with mixed herbs and a dash of tabasco, topped with cheese and salad

Oh, and on the subject of tuna, definitely recommended for those with accepting tastebuds:
Get half can of spaghetti in tomato sauce, microwave for two mins (it'll be REALLY hot), then mix with a tin of drained tuna. The cold tuna mixing with hot spaghetti equalises out the temperature to something edible pretty quickly! Add worcester sauce & pepper (and cheese if you like) to taste. Et voila! |

I've never bought Tuna at that price. Most of the supermarkets do deals with tins of Tuna. Somerfield, Morrisons and Kwik Save regularly do buy one get one free or 50% extra free offers on the packs.
"400 cans of tuna for one fish." I dont think ive ever seen a tuna in its natural state. But surely they can't be that big. Also for any fish adding lemon juice gives it a great kick. |
