These suggestions all rock, and im really impressed with all of them, one thing im worried about is how long to cook stuff.
A few years ago, I got really bad food poisoning which laid me up for quite a while, and I dont think ive recovered since! So ever since, ive been a little paranoid about cooking times for stuff, and im sure im not the only one that worries about this. Can anyone give me any times for basic meats/egg that may kill me if not cooked for long enough?!!? Chicken, Pork, Beef, etc. I know i sound like a tard, asking how long to boil an egg for, but I think that its important for people to know this stuff!!! lol! xav |

What you best to do with stuff like chicken is pan fry it with some olive oil and then cut it open to check its cooked. Any pink at all and keep cooking.
Steak on the other hand: you cook it to what you want it done. I like mine med-rare
Check my project <<| Black3D |>>

Fair enough
Wot about Pork? Ive heard that's hard to tell, because its slightly pink when its cooked anyway! Oh and also, what would you say is a realistic budget for food a week? My rents reckon £25. I think thats possible, but it will be constant trips to Aldi/Lidl (the students food paradise) "What Did The Leper Say To The Prostitute?...You Can Keep The Tip!" Sorry If That Offends!!!

I'm practising for Uni by livinf on £20 a week, buy most of my stuff from tescos and meat from the butchers where I work. Get BOGOF stuff and keep the extra fro the following week.
Fry up some mince with some onion, until brown. Cook some pasta at the same time. Mix together in saucepan when done, Throw in a load of sweet chilli sauce, Place on dish, coat with grated cheese and microwave for a few mins.hmmm hmmm Last edited by Stevo; 05-09-2005 at 12:22 AM.. |

Pork is fairly easy to do
Its more of a "you can tell when it is and isn't cooked" kind of thing. Oh, and if you ever have a barbeque get some chicken breast fillets and just stick em on it till cooked. No sauces or anything needed. They are gorgeous

second that, or do as i do, and goto the supermarket in about 2 weeks, buy loads of bbq stuff all reduced, slam in the freezer till weather nice, then do it that way, saved like £20 on our house bbq!
Pork make sure you cook it at a high enough temp, if your unsure about any of these things, get a "probe" most commercial places, this will save getting worms (pork often has worms, esp if its local from a hippy shop). Make sure its above 65°C iirc, then you won't be killing anyone (i have to be very careful when cooking for my adasonian mum, so i'm quite anal in the kitchen) As for shopping, don't forget ASDA home delivery for £1.99, they are really good about rining before going to the hall. If you only have one friend between 6 who has a car, this saves on a lot of issues. (depends if your friends are all deadbeats like mine). I mean £1.99, thats a return bus fair!

Get the Virgin guide!
It seriously rules. Made pizza with it. And the ultimate thing to impress ladies: Egg fried rice (home made)

if the idea of my meat in some pastry is sexual to you?!
Get some puff pasty, i buy mine from the cash n carry because its cheaper than making it myself, not to mention its really well made n strong. flower the work top, + pin, roll the pastry till its about 3 mm thick. Then using some foie gras pate, spread over the center of the pastry. Then wash + peel a mushroom, i always try n buy large english mush rooms as the flavour is better, one thats about 12cm should be enough for 4 people. Slice that, and lay over the the pate, then, seal the beef (you can use rib eye if your running low on dosh), just quickly in a frying pan, shouldn't take 1 minuite. place ontop of mushroomed pate, then seal up the puff pastry around it, make a small insistion with a knife for the steam to escape through, just do it artistically! then stick in oven gas mark 6 for about 20-35 minuites depending on the size of pastry and beef. how the hell is that sexual? (oh an google 'tantric sex' for more info).
