    Quick, Cheap Meals!

    S'up all

Does anyone have any quick, cheap meals for Uni students going away this year or in the future?

Many of my posts have a Uni theme this week!

I know many people are thinking "Jesus, not another frigging student" but I think its important that people going to Uni know how to cook meals quickly!!!!

    I certainly do!!!!!!

    cheers

yeah.. check the catering capabilities of the union out as they tend to do some cheapo meals at lunch and tea times.

Alternatively - get a map and look for the nearest McD's, KFC, or Burger King

lastly - if you want to cook yourself, I suggest a good shop at farmfoods or a local Netto is worth it as these tend to have meals that can be microwaved for sale cheaper than the major named stores.

im a big fan of stirfries, chop some chicken/turkey/pork up the day before, bung it in a dish with some oil soysauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar if you have it (not essential) and some five spice. Next day wap it in a pan (non stick for ease of cleaning) and serve with noodles or rice, i personally prefer noodles.

Also good for cheap easy curries, is 1 tin tomatoes, half jar of pataks curry paste (dont get a creamy one) fry some onions and your meat, then whack the tomatoes and paste over it and let it simmer for 20 mins.

    Pasta bakes, particularly with sausages.

Sausage sandwiches, but find your local butcher and get them there cos theyll be about a million times tastier.

Fray bentos pies in tins, bootiful

Go to your supermarket late in the day.

Get the end of day meats and veg and stuff. Cook it that nite.

    Thats what I do.

Or get a job at a supermarket and get a discount.

Don't get microwave meals, they may be cheap in the short run, but they do not do your digestive tract any good and are low on nutrients.

Jack Fulton's - great freezer shop if you end up near one, they get lots of branded products with misprinted boxes etc.

    Quick meals:
    Scrambled Eggs
Eggs + some milk + a dash of salt. Mix, pour into a hot frying pan and stir with a spatula

    Omelette
Ingredients as above, you can add herbs to the mix (sage is nice), as well as adding toppings. Pour into frying pan, lift the edges with spatula and tilt pan to cook the loose bits, then stick the whole thing under the grill to firm up the top.

    Simple salad
Chop some lettuce. Grate some carrots. Mix in a big bowl. Add olive oil, salt and balsamic vinegar. Stir well then serve.

May be considered the "bad" way, but you can cook a spud in 6-7 minutes at full power in the micro. Poke with a flat pointy knife, check for horrible solid bits - give it another 30s-1m if it's still a bit hard.

    Superior Scrambled Eggs
Get 2 slices of toast. Cover one with the scrambled eggs, top with salt, black pepper, grated cheese and tomato salsa/relish (spicy is best). Place the remaining toast on top and slice into quarters.

Yup, i start mine off in the microwave to soften the inside then chuck 'em in the oven for a few minutes to crispy the outside

Or, you can cook in the micro, leave to cool then slice into wedges (because otherwise you'll burn your hands!). Place on a baking sheet, drizzle with oil, sprinkle with salt and rosemary, give them 5 minutes, turn, sprinkle again, 5 more mins then serve.

    mmm tasty...

Pasta + stir in sauce + tune (or bacon if no-likee tune).

    Pesto is also nice.

Pesto risotto is quick and easy too.

Try to include some veggies like peppers as they are quick to cook too

    Check my project <<| Black3D |>>

Dr. Oetker are the BEST frozen pizzas you can get, others may be cheaper but won't be as tasty. Can't remember the brand, but the second best is the Goodfellas? ciabatta pizzas.
