Help meeeeeee!!!
Hiya, I know this probably sounds really stupid to most of you...
But, I'm a young guy and have been brought up on crap food - and i've only recently come to realize this. I really want something that is good for me, easy to make - tastes good.. and will fill me up. this is mostly for lunch at work. I don't like much red meat, or much fish though. Any suggestions? |

Ok, one of my faviorite snacks:
Taramasalata and Pita bread... Really easy, just put about 3 pieces of pita bread under the grill on a medium flame, keep an eye on it. when its golden on one side turn them all over and do the same. Open them and spread butter inside them. Cut them into strips (I.e. eggs and soldiers), and drop it all onto a plate with a huge dollop of Taramasalata dip on it. Absolutely gorgeous, takes about 5 minutes, and nothing hard to do. Grill. Butter. Cut. Eat.
Something witty and fun that amuses you.

Bread Sandwhiches?
2 Slices of bread with a bready like filling and if you really want filling up, you can use 2 slices of bread in the middle! Also for a change Use Granary Hovis loaf as a filling and Vice Versa! Granary on the outside and white on the in! I prefer to call it the Ebony and Ivory butty. Not to be mixed up with anything! Or if your lazy you could have a mars bar and some bloo pop! |

How about something like minted cous cous and a few grilled chicken fillets (inner fillets).
Take you about 10 mins to do and is healthy, cous cous makes a welcome change from rice. |

Cous cous is tasty. I'm a big fan of stir fries, just lash some pork/chicken/turkey/pers^H^H^H^H other meat in a bowl with soy sauce, fivespice and a bit of rice vinegar an hour or so before you want it (i like to do it when i come in from work/uni then wap it in a pan witha smidgen of olive oil, fry and serve with whatever you like, i use noodles, but if you were one of those weird people that like veg then i suppose you could have it with beansprouts bamboo shoots etc. Fairly healthy, if a little salty. Also, just making things from scratch, like bolognese, possibly the easiest sauce ever, is tastier and not full of crap if made from scratch.

Grilled chicken fillets, potato salad, and mixed salad leaves. Or cut it up & add it to some pasta & pesto. Just bung it in a tub & take it to work.
Knock up some chicken tikka or tandori chicken. Lovely with some left-over rice & salad. |

Pesto is really easy to make and is a dry but tatsty dressing.
Its supposed to be made from Pine Nuts, but if you cant get them Almonds and if not them Cashews. If all else fails a mixture of salted and dry roast peanuts will do. Put nuts in a container, add some oil (extra virgin olive is my personal preference with this but anything will do) add a handful of fresh sweet basil leaves then blitz down into a rough consistency with a hand blender, if you want you can also add a touch of garlic to taste. Then just drizzle over whatever, it goes really well with plain grilled chicken. You could also add it to the cous cous mix when preparing it instead of doing minted cous cous, that would be nice. |

Mmm... agree with pesto as easy, but would have to say it goes best with tagliettelli (or however you spell it) pasta...
Otherwise, well... I'm a student, so quick and easy is generally highest on my list rather than fresh or healthy. Nonetheless, (afraid its pasta again, and premade even this time) but i find that the tortellini, which can come in a fairly large range of fillings to cater to taste is pretty decent- try and get fresh rather than freeze dried and just add olive oil and a bit of grated parmezan for what is pretty nice and easy imho. Dont touch gnocci unless you have a good tomato sauce however, otherwise thats pretty decent too... Cant think of anything non-pasta atm... hmm... i should prolly go eat ![]() -Zed13 |

Try adding sun dried tomatoes and/or black or green olives to the pesto for a bit of a change.
Improvisation, the real joy off cooking. You'll be hooked in no time.

The other thing to check is do you have a microwave at work, as if you do then this can open up a huge variety of foods.
I much prefer hot/warm foods to cold foods, so I used to have a real issue with sandwiches, just found them boring. With a microwave and luckily a toaster at my disposal now the possibilities are much more diverse. Fajhitas are another good choice, make some the night before take them in and microwave them hot in a few minutes. Hot Spicy soup, whatever flavour you wish. other interesting things to make, could include lamb kebabs. Plenty of things to try. TiG
