    homemade popcorn flavourings

I have a hot air popcorn machine(very healthy as not popped with oil and pretty much no calories if you are worried about that). I have one of those duck shaped ones(it was on offer in argos for £7.99 ages ago and it works flawlessly).

Anyway, I normally like my popcorn salted with no butter. I cannot get the salt to flavour/stick to the popcorn, it just collects in the bottom of the bowl. How can I get it to flavour the popcorn?

    Also, any other flavouring ideas?

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

I think you need to use powdered salt (like they use on chips in fast food places). It's much finer than normal so it sticks better. I suppose if you can't get hold of that you could always crush some in a pestle and mortar (or in a plastic bag with a rolling pin if you don't have that) so it's finer.

Popcorn goes well with all sorts of things, but parmesan chese is a good start. Again, the finer the better. I know some people who swear by Marmite popcorn too, but they're freaks. Marmite is strictly for toasted items.

for savoury - grab some "everyday seasoning" from the Carribean section of your local supermarket. its good stuff

for sweet , I sometimes put a bit of golden syrup in with the butter
or ice cream type chocolate source , or some of the coffe syrup flavorings you can get.

the powdered salt will probably work, otherwise chuck on the salt no the popcorn in a bag or covered bowl and give it a good shake. This is best done while it's still hot, particularly when the popcorn's steaming a little as the salt does stick a bit to it. Powdered/crushed salt will stick more easily I guess (easy to do with a pestle and mortar) You will probably still find salt collected at the bottom, but the occasional salad-mixing type mixup usually helps.

butterscotch is good, but sticky and not kind to remote controls
personally I like it with butter and a little salt, so if I ate it often I'd be needing a few bypasses...

I wish there was a simple way of making toffee popcorn in these machines. mmm, toffee.

I was put of butterkiss popcorn when the bag I was munching through was a little soggy. Closer inspection I noted the green fluffy stuff growing on the popped corn.

I'd only eaten a few pieces. My parents however had consumed the bag...

beautiful as a sauce for ice cream aswell I recommend putting a mars bar or galaxy choc ice in the microwave until melted and pouring that over the popcorn or icecrea

You could always make Caramel using Caster sugar. Just heat it up until it caramelizes and pour it over the popcorn.

Another really interesting recipe here too-

i often end up with 'chargrilled' flavour...

Please, Don't ask for that one 'as a desktop'...its really not worth wasting your time asking, unless you're able to pay £££?

I normally go for the microwave bags as you get the butter flavored one and works quite well. When i use the machine we got i just have a little tub of syrup and dip the popcorn in. If i dont want to mess about i just pour some melted butter over it.

cinamon & caster sugar works well, as does maple syrup.
